Until they screwed up the connections were fast and rock solid 24/7 with the odd, very occasional blip. See what happened to them!

Pipex are a bunch of thieves and liars. They took money off me, lied about refunds which never happened etc etc (long story).

They own Nildram, F2S and Bulldog too and all 3 of them have gone down the toilet since Pipex took over.

I am currently with Nildram, thankfully only til Friday as I emigrate to Canada on Saturday. Nildram used to be ok til Pipex took over.

Nildram throttle ALL ports. That's everything including HTTP and that was straight from tech support who admitted it when I called them on Thursday to enquire why I was still getting speed probs. I called earlier in the week and the guy blatantly lied saying Nildram were experiencing speed issues all day. The guy I spoke to Thursday said throttling had been in place over a week so the guy I spoke to before blatantly lied to me.

Anyway, you won't get a 8mb connection now, not even 1mb. All ports are throttled to 80kbs so effectively you are getting around a 512k connection being sold to you as 8mb.

Throttling is applied 24/7 I was told and it is and it's for ALL users, not just heavy users. So what the hell they think they are selling now I don't know as all their packages are basically 512k now.

Pipex are the biggest bunch of !!!!!!! thieving SHYSTERS ever. They used to be the authority when it came to choosing an ISP.

Not anymore, not by a long chance.

OFCOM don't seem to give a toss about them either, despite mine and many others complaints to OFCOM regarding Pipex's business practices.

Something seriously needs to be done because currently they are flogging a lie. PIPEX = SCUM.

  • In fact, I wonder if Martin might like to chip in on this one.

Perhaps someone with a bit more clout in the consumer issues department might be able to get the ball rolling faster in regards to shady T&C's and AUP's quietly slipped in by ISP's regarding their packages and how OFCOM just lets them continue to get away with it.

ISP's don't even have to inform their customers of any changes they make. !!!!!! well and truly covered! It's a disgrace and something HAS to be done about it.

Hope you read this Martin as it's an issue that certainly needs to be given a much higher public profile.

Freedom2Surf caused hell for customers who had bought ADSL routers from them, by upgrading their network making it incompatible with these routers. My father was without service for a week because they didn't respond to his enquiry; we only sorted it out because I had to investigate.

Oh, and their billing is crap too - they kept sending me demands after I'd transferred to another ISP, and I still get all their "service update" emails.

BT is like British Gas - the dominant, and uncompetitive, provider. The easy option but not the way to moneysave.
Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.

Have to agree with the comments about F2S. I was with them for over 2 years but left them recently due to poor service since their takeover. I'm now with Virgin and although they are a bit slow at times and their mail servers being a bit wayward at weekends, the fact that their broadband costs me nowt (due to taking a pay monthly sim card) more than compensates for the odd flaw.

Many seem to be saying the same thing about Ofcom. The people that should be answering our questions are the politicians who set up these boards.

Of course pipex now owns bulldog, which if anyone is a customer of will realise how bad bulldog is, especially billing

Wow. A lot of negs about service providers here.

    Which ones are GOOD?

There must be a reasonably priced provider that gives good Cust. service, constant connection or very little downtime, Reliable emails. Etc.

    Any reccomendations?

    Yes, Entanet
They don't sell directly so they have resellers/partners and they are:

Aquiss, Xifos, UKFSN, Freeola, Seriously Internet, Vivcanti Broadband and more

UK based support 24/7, good reputation and excellent reliability/speeds. I pay £19.99mth, 1mth contract, upto 8mb, decent cap, and excellent support.

Go and check out their forum on adslguide
    http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=entanet

And check out their ratings here: although of course ratings go up and down, so not totally to be relied upon.

    So happy hunting :)
