There was gas this morning and we had £0.70 credit and i put in another £20 but there is no gas in the flat and the gas meter is saying "OFF" error message!!!!!

Not 100% sure but you should press and hold the "A" button until the supply is restored (You should hear it start to flow through. Call your supplier and check but i think that is correct.
  • well, not sure what to do now, no-one turned up today( we do have nearly a foot of snow) so wasnt really expecting anyone, but i thought i may have had a phone call at least...so... do i phone about todays missed appointment(bad weather conditions) or just the fact that no-one has phoned to let me know whats going on, or will someone just turn up when they can get here..

If your meter is saying off it means it has tripped out and you need to contact your gas supplier to arrange for a metering engineer to come out and reset it .

meant to quote this in post, call your gas supplier as your meter needs reseting as it has turned it's self off for some reason and that is why there is no gas getting through and it will not accept top ups either when it is off

Sorry lt that's not the case. This just shows the meter has gone into safety mode - it won't just turn the gas on when you top up in case you left something on.
Put the.card in and the screen should say 0.00 on card, press a for gas.
Press and hold the red a button - the screen will sat hold for gas
Newer meter will them say release for gas after a second or two, if so let go.
Oldereters will just start the gas.

I'd try and get the prepayment meter taken out as well. If your supplier refuses to do this, you can cite the missed appointment & say theat they are in the wrong so they should be doing soemthing to satisfy you, as the customer.

These sort of things can happen with prepayment meters. You are relying on the supplier being efficient in order to keep getting power & heating, if a problem develops.

I can understand that but they should always try SwanJons info first as we speak to may people each day and this is all they need to do. I always advise them ( especially older customers) that they may hear a loud noise as the gas comes back on.

Yes, sometimes it doesn't work, but you don't get all the calls where we explain to the customers how to do it and it works, nor the customers who follow the instructions on the meter screens.

In the same way I'd never suggest calling NG emergency service for something the customer can resolve themselves....
  • Well, the battery has finally "failed" so now have to sit without heating until someone comes out, i am so mad, things didnt have to go this far....
