Gatwick airport to London Euston?

It is technically invalid to buy a ticket for a longer journey than you actually make, although you can often get away with it. The OP can book at advanced single ticket for trains leaving Stansted via Tottenham Hale and Euston up to 15.15 for £28. That's what I would do allowing about two hours in case the plane is delayed. If you have decent travel insurance you can claim the cost of buying an extra rail ticket if your flight is delayed, but only if you have allowed yourself a reasonable margin to make the connection.
Actually it is perfectly valid providing the ticket is one that allows break of journey. Audley End is perfectly OK.0 -

No it isn't - it is technically valid with all anytime tickets and most off peak ones. It is technically (and actually) invalid with 'advance' tickets.
I suspect OP is arriving at Stansted after 1515 given that he can't find through tickets at that price0 -

Sorry your first statement is only correct for Advance tickets. Most if not all Off-peak and all Anytime tickets allow a break of journey. If you doubt what I say take it up with the railway industry insiders on RailUKForum who will soon put you right.....
With respect to your statement about claiming for new train tickets if a flight is delayed I suspect that the excess will be such as to preclude this even if it is theoretically possible.
Incidentally if the OP is looking to use Gatwick as was originally stated Advance tickets to Victoria on Southern's website start at £3.25......0 -
Thanks for the advice. It took about 2 hours 30 in the end (although I wasn't exactly rushing around as I knew I had plenty of time). Still I'd advise people to allow 3 hours to do this journey in the future (to make it in 2 would have made the journey a bit stressful).
Merry Christmas!!!!!!!Instigated terrorism the road to dictatorship.0
