"Just get a job" advice

I'm getting really fed up of some people constantly answering "Just get a job" to any problem posed by an unemployed person.

UK unemployment is at 7.7% as of last Wednesday, that's nearly 2.5 million people out of work.

Can we please start to accept that maybe, just maybe, it isn't actually all that easy to get a job at the moment and there physically aren't enough out there for everyone who might want one to have one?

I should probably post this on the benefits forum actually...

There is a great deal of help offered by people to unemployed people on this particular section of the board. Many people want to offer advice and when people ask, it is given.
I have never seen anything resembling the type of message you allege.

Admittedly there is more of it on the Benefits board, but my post was inspired by this comment from Hammyman just a few hours ago:

"How about the OP does what both my brothers did and get a job?"

Its not that uncommon a response, thankfully out numbered by those willing to help and who are better informed, but it doesn't hurt to remind a few particular posters of the reality of the current employment situation.

Hammyman is prone to ridiculous shoot from the hip statements, take no notice of him. I was irritated by that remark too but it's typical of his style of ill considered thoughtless comment. It's always about him, too, so just ignore him.

Go to view public profile >>> User lists >>> Add to ignore list.

The irritant will magically vanish :)

And don't whatever you do react or respond to them - that's what they want.

In fairness you are correct that it is not that easy to get a job.

However, I think there is a growing trend on these boards where people are whinning about not getting interviews or moaning that they dont like the hours because they are not the 4 hours on a sunday they were promised so on and so on and its becoming hard to sort the wheat from the chaff.

Unless its is someone I think obviously taking the !!!! Im doing my best to refrain from posting as I very rearly have anything constructive to add these days.

Well all except that above...at leat I hope thats constructive...oh dear....

    G
One day some company will do what they say they will do and charge a fair charge.:T

Not doing the opposite of that which they promise and charge you a fortune for the privileged. :(

    Or maybe not:mad:

so far i have applied for over 100 jobs and sent 3 off thisweek
i have had my CV tweaked by a profeesional had interview techniques and the sreason im still unemployed is because there are just too many people going for them

I am sorry to hear your predicament, I hope you didn't shell out any money for this tweaking, some charge about £200 if you are looking for a salary of 25k

How is it then, that within 4 months of me moving to a completely new place I am working 4 different jobs?

There are jobs, people are just too up themselves to go for them.

I've seen no end of staff wanted signs, from delivery driving, to relief milking, to royal mail sorting, to the massive curry's packhouse on the side of the A1, with a massive banner syaing "staff wanted"!

Is it because you are amazing and everyone else is just scum? Well done you.
