So keep using gas, electricity and buy fish from Norway (look in your local Tesco) and the three big supermarkets also sell Jarlsberg cheese, also from Norway. Oh, and if you have a good deli anywhere near you, they should sell Ski Queen cheese. Brown, tangy and fudgy at the same time - yum! Have a look at http://www.norwegiancheeses.co.uk/ for your nearest supplier, but I know that Crebers of Tavistock sell it, and a couple of delis in Exeter too.

    Save a prawn - kill a whale!:rotfl: :p

    Oh, Jarlsberg, yum! :D

    Love them prawns!

I take it you would have 'gone out of your way' in Victorian times to support the mill and mine owners who used child labour in atrocious conditions. I take it you would have 'gone out of your way' to support the Confederate States slavery policy. I take it you would 'go out of your way' to support animal testing of perfumes. I take it you would 'go out of your way' to support ethnic cleansing by certain armies in recent times.

Jobs are involved wherever you look. 'Jobs' equates to 'ethical' with you, right?

Grow up and join those of us who can take a wider view. Sometimes, you have to take a stand.

Your argument falls down a tad here, losing touch, as it does, with logic and, briefly, reality.

What I am saying is that, if you have a problem with someone or something, try standing up to them. Don't have a go at someone else.

Yeah and we'll all live together in some sort of communist utopia.

Yeah because that would be pardise wouldn't it? The communists are little better than the capitalists..

When enough people lose their jobs, they will starve, freeze and generally not have enough energy to revolt - I'm guessing that you've not been to Iceland or Finland have you?

Then you'd guess wrong. I've been to Kárahnjúkar at the camp and I've been to finland a few times, along with norway once (and the guy sat next to me his father is a trawlerman from norway).

Revolt has always come about when the working people have had the least - and it is still happening around the globe today.

The people at Tiananmen Square revolted, Zapatista ANL are using non violent means to bring about a true revolution, france 68, iraq now, etc etc.

All people who didn't sit at a computer whining about the poorest and most vulnerable people in society but actually did something to try and improve things.
'Revolt'? For crying out loud. What planet are we all on here?

A planet were I and others actually do something, instead of acting like one of the middleclasses you denounce - whinging about stuff but not actually doing anything about it..

Boycotts and revolts? Hands up everyone who isn't currently involved in a Student Union!

Hands up who is stuck in the 80's?

The only thing student unions have been any good for in over ten years is 10% reduction at hmv or some other scab shop.

Just thought of something for those who want to boycott Icelandic things - Lazytown. For those not in the know, it's a children's programme about a superhero (although how super he is can also be debated, albeit in a different forum), trying to promote to children the benefits of healthy eating and excercise. The whole kit and kaboodle is devised, directed, produced, created and starring (as the superhero Sportacus) an Icelandic hunk and champion aerobic-worky-outy-bloke called Magnus Scheving. There's hardly a section in the credits where his name is omitted. And the whole thing is filmed in Lazytown studios in - yes, you guessed it - Iceland. And I suppose you'll have to boycott the BBC for showing it as part of Cbeebies, and NickJr for showing it several times a day.

Lol! Could it be more apt?

And I'd like to add Magnus Magnusson to the list. I bet he's still being repeated on UK Gold or something. Hey, a lasting tribute to those whales - let's bring down sky! :D

    GO PRAWNS!

I think what was trying to come out of this statement (jmarko will have to correct me if I'm wrong) was that a lot of people's view on students - especially those in student unions - is that stereotypical long haired, hippie looking, pot smoking and tie dye wearing tree hugger that is often associated with right wing members of organisations such as Greenpeace. And I could be wrong but it came across pretty comical to me - I had a good chuckle anyway - so thanks again jmarko!:j

You seem to be under the impression that if you have to go out of your way to boycott things then "don't bother". You seem to have no principles so you expect noone else to have any either.

If you are going to boycott something you would never have purchased anyway - thats when you have to ask "what is the point?".

The original poster on the other hand is asking for lists of stuff to help her. All you can do is make stupid suggestions about childrens tv shows..

    You noticed, Ken.

Personally, I take comfort from the illustration of the standard of the other side's 'argument'.
