Ah, one comes back after an hours-long break to find the trolls (how appropriate!) still much in evidence.

One can only assume that hurt pride is the driving force.

Thanks for keeping the thread title up in prime position, guys. A couple more converts to the cause thanks to your sterling efforts, to judge by my inbox.

Well, you may not like us foreigners but we sure do work hard, ma'am.

I find it rather amusing - and confusing - that you're both insulting me and thanking me in the same breath! Wow, that does take some doing! And you are mistaken. Hurt pride is not the driving force. It's not like I haven't got anything better to do, but this is much more fun than hoovering!

jmarko - should we take offence? Although I am not quite sure what I'd do with a new fence... Could sit on it I suppose. Because now we are not only unintelligent and loathed because we are foreign - now we're trolls! If only OP knew how lovable Norwegian trolls are. Not like the ugly mean ones in Harry Potter!

we could take the fence and put it round the uk - stop them getting out and messing up the rest of the world. if they get out, i've got a set of icelandic yule lads that i could set on them! :D

jmarko - foreign is as foreign does

    Anyway......

Now that the thread has been hijacked, is there any chance it can get back to its original purpose...

Or can the childish comments carry on all night? I would suggest gerretl, tr3mor and jmarko start their own thread about saving rats and acting like children....

If you disagree with the OP then fair enough, you've had your say (many times over) but your posts are going against the ethos of the site - helping each other!

You say we are hijackiing this. OK, then lets get to serious discussion.
Sancitmonious nonsense by people who see a whale being killed makes me sick.
Thousands of chickens are being developed (that is the only way to describe it) that mature in half their natural age. Why?
Because the turnover of space in their crappy sheds is faster. These chickens are then mass slaughtered so people can eat their chicken burger. I stopped eating KFC years ago when I realised the techniques used to supply the food chain.
A whale has the freedom of the entire ocean (Thats 70 % of the earths surface) and was born and raised in its natural environment. It can go wherever it wants. Thats more chance than the chicken has.
I mention the rat, because if you want to save one animal, then you should try and save every animal (including rats).
I will not be browbeaten by some self righteous person, who thinks because they donate a few quid to Greenpeace, they are saints.
Go picket McDonalds (Another chain I no longer eat in)

Jarlsberg is a Norwegian product, isn't it..? I shall be asking my local Tesco to consider removing it from their shelves.

Jesus Christ! Because Norway is hunting whales, within their rights I might add, you plan to boycott Norwegian products? Grow up! What if everybody who didnt like something England did decided to boycott English products?

If you plan to boycott Norway atleast do so for a just cause, not killing of animals whose meat we eat.. Might I add that whale meat taste very nice.

    So, any intelligent contributions, then?
So I guess my contribution was intelligent.
If we keep jumping from one thing to another that is highlighted in the TV, we are missing the point.
Over the years, we have slipped into this idea that cheap food is good, and the methods that it takes to get the cheap food is therefore also good.
Its for the individual to decide according to their concience.
I eat meat, but if there is a vegetarian alternative that is as good I will opt for that first.
I try my utmost to source the meat from where the animals had a good life.
I hope the worms that devour my corpse when I am buried have the same principles.

Thanks gerretl but I have given up on the thread.

I'm surprised it hasn't been locked from all the petty sniping.

    Cheers anyway

At last, a posting with some genuine origin to it.

May I ask why you think it is sanctimonious to want to stop the killing of whales for personal profit?

Naturally I agree with you that there are other creatures being mistreated and killed by people. I don't wish in any way to prevent you from protesting about that if you want.

It is a valid point - BUT, it is the same as saying that I don't have your permission to protest against any one thing because there are other bad things going on. I have to protest against absolutely every bad thing and can't make any personal choices... seems to be your message.

Am I misreading you? If not, then I'm afraid that I see no reason to change my opinion. Given the practicalities: that I can't be everywhere at once and time is not unlimited at the personal level, I reserve my right to take make my own protest on the issue of my choice.

Well I for one was being serious about enquiring on your position about Eskimos whaling. My single post in a thread, albeit flippant – facetious even – does not qualify for being a troll.

Let me state my position. I am against whaling if it endangers a species. Whilst well intended I think your blanket boycott proposal is both silly and unjust in equal measure.

So just what is your position on Eskimos whaling? Bear in mind that the traditional whaling methods are far more primitive and agonising for the whale – a hand-thrown harpoon versus a powerful cannon. I believe I read of a harpooned whale being followed for 24 hours before it died from loss of blood.

Bear in mind that the International Whaling Commission has always allowed Eskimos to hunt whales, has always allowed a quota of whales to be hunted for ‘research’ and now allows Japan etc to hunt certain species.

Please simply answer these 2 questions:

Do you approve of Eskimos whaling?

If not, what is your suggested action against them?
