Yet you run a PC, which IBM contributed an enormous amount of research to, and no doubt use Microsoft Windows, which is based on (or was based on) MS-DOS, which was purchased from IBM and relabelled Microsoft.
So if you're going to boycott something, do it correctly or don't do it at all.........0 -

don't forget LizEstelle's golden rules, folks:
1 - intelligent views only; and
2 - no foreigner's views count.

I had an intelligent discussion this morning with jmarko further up the thread, heck we even agreed on something (i think).
Now he has descended into childish humour and sarchasm (the lowest form of wit - just for you maow!!)

As fas as OP's comments about people's names are concerned, I would like to point out that most Scandinavian names are very similar to Icelandic names - the surnames anyway. They tend to end with -son or -sen. And OP would surely not heckle someone just for their name? And BTW, a very large percentage of English people are direct descendants of the Vikings! You remember those don't you? Those horned-helmet clad, mead-swilling invaders from Denmark, Norway and Iceland.
Also, Iceland is not part of Scandinavia, only Norway, Sweden and Denmark. Iceland is part of that described as the Nordic countries, but not Scandinavia.0 -
just wait, we'll be boycotting Denmark now too!

So I'm guessing OP isn't going to wrongly (in more ways than one) heckle jmarko's name and label him/her as a Scandinavian? My maiden name is Vebjørnsdatter - does OP have a problem with that? OP is quite welcome to have a go!0

OH NO! OP's lovely thread has been invaded by vikings! :rotfl: (and one non-viking but still foreigner!)
Maow, you may have to wait for a civilised reply. OP doesn't like foreigners.

LizEstelle wrote:Whaling is as clear a case of barbaric human behaviour towards wild animals as you will find in the modern world, full stop. This is something which, IMHO, people need to take a stand on or lose the right to call themselves civilised.
So are you saying it's worse to hunt/kill free animals than one that has liveed its entire - however short - life in captivity? By all means take a stand, I'm just saying that maybe you shouldn't be so selective in your approach.
Have you given any more thought to approaching your MP, or Ben Bradshaw, who was named in a BBC article here http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/6064028.stm. I'm sure our elected representatives can have an harder hitting impact than leaving certain items off the shopping lists. Just an idea.0 -

We did agree ... on something ... can't remember what now but it was a good little chat we had. Since then OP has decided that I've got a foreign name and, by implication, my views don't count. It was a sad moment.

Not just the thread, jmarko! The whole country! If OP knew that little bit more about British ancestry, OP would know that scientists have established via genetic testing that and astonishing amount of Britons are of Viking ancestral origin. Puts the whole whaling/anti-whaling issue into perspective. Especially considering that if OP is British/white (those pesky things you have to fill out on job apps equal opportunities papers) then there's a big possibility OP is of viking ancestral origin... and a foreigner - well, kind of.0
