I said it in the OP's first thread on this subject, so I might as well repeat myself for the benefit of this thread. Greenpeace is actively campaigning against this, and contrary to what the OP thinks (as hinted at in their original thread), they're not simply a group of people who go around campaigning in inflatable boats.

On one front, Greenpeace are campaigning in a way which will make a huge point:

All I want to say is that for those of you who actually do give a damn about stopping whaling, then try to realise that it'll do a whole lot more deciding to give Greenpeace your support, rather than not buying that Sony electrical or can of fish from Iceland.

Oh and another thing, suggesting Greenpeace is merely an irrelevant fringe organisation is ridiculous.

I suggest the OP looks into just what work Greenpeace does around the world and the weight this work carries.

Also, may I please ask what your actual objection is to whaling? Is it endangerment and biodiversity, the methods used, or hunting in general?

I object to the killing of whales for any reason but particularly in the pursuit of pure profit.

This is a senseless, inhumane and vicious practice, frequently involving the hounding of exhausted creatures over many hours, followed by not the shortest death.

Scientists maintain that there is every reason to believe we are dealing with a sentient, self-aware creature, along with most of the other cetaceans.

This barbaric practice is a sorry stain on the reputation of the countries involved, some of which like to tout themselves otherwise as models of 'civilisation' which we should all emulate. They should be totally ashamed of themselves .... and I believe I detect more than a touch of embarrassed partisanship in some of the comments I have been reading.

For your information, there are PLENTY of countries with whom I have no special gripe about anything.

Name them. I'm sure we could find some miniscule reason for you to turn your wrath to them!

A very good example of Greenpeace's "useful" work

From here: Greenpeace spokesman Charlie Kronick said: "These lights are going to blaze away until the end of her reign, and the way she's going, that could be a very long time, probably long enough to see the catastrophic effects of climate change strike our country and the wider world."

    This is a senseless...

I'm sure it makes sense to the people profiting from it!

Did you, however, take note of my comments that Norway have not broken the ban on whaling, but have been doing so legally all along?

And do you also object to the killing of pigs for profit? Scientists also believe that pigs are intelligent and social creatures like ourselves, and pigs' organs have actually been used in organ transplants. So is this practice ok with you, or have you made a concious choice to oppose hunting of whales instead of other intelligent beings. I could understand your argument if you're a vegetarian and don't eat meat, but as of yet, I find it difficult to comprehend that someone choses to oppose the killing of one animal instead of another. Please note that I'm not having a go by saying this, I'm just trying to make sense of things and get the bigger picture.

JD - the answer (as supplied by another pm) is somebody called Eggert Magnusson. It seems he wants to buy some club in London. No idea if this is right. Not interested in football!

My dh tells me that Stoke City football club was Icelandic owned. And there are a couple of Icelandic footballers in the English leagues.

Maybe Switzerland with their army knives. I'm sure those things have caused great suffering in the world to those who have attempted using one. I have one in my handbag that I inherited from my dad, and it's come in handy a couple of times but my goodness! The broken nails and sore fingertips are just murder!

And let's not forget Belgium! Their chocolate is bound to have caused it's fair share of the UK's obesity problem - I mean, it just tastes so good!:rotfl:

I'm absolutely certain it does. I'm sure it made great sense to the plantation owners to continue with slavery, too.
