I Miss My Daughter So Much

  • Lots of people follow their dream to go and live abroad and then decide it's not for them after all, so they return back home to live. Your daughter must not see herself as a loser or a failure. She should be proud of herself that she had the courage to give it a go and the sense to admit things were not working out as she hoped.

Fingers crossed that the weather doesn't disrupt her journey home and your reunion (I bet you can't wait). Also wishing her good luck for her interview and a happy future.

Will you tell her that she isn't a loser, the fact that she even tried it shows that she has guts. There are sooo many people that said they would love to move to/visit Oz when we came out here and I can count on one hand the number that have done it.
Its bloody hard going out here when you first arrive and makes you realise a lot about yourself as a person!
I hope she enjoys seeing the snow and wish her look with the job interview

Good luck with the transport situation - Heathrow seems to be a good bet so far

Tell your daughter that nothing in life is wasted, however things turn out - she will have learned a lot from her experience that may come in useful some time. I'm so glad you will have her home for Christmas.

My daughter is also in aus, she was living with boyfriends family so I could telephone for free on the land line (utility warehouse), now she's moved out they don't have a landline, she doesn't have a computer either so I cant use skype, any suggestions for a cheap way to speak with her on her mobile, she has an aus and uk sim that I can phone her on, any suggestions?

The calls are not free on UW you pay for them in your rental usually having to buy their expensive energy products etc to qualify for them.

Dont phone her on her UK Sim whilst she is in OZ as it will cost her an arm and a leg to recieve the calls.

If your calling her OZ mobile from your UK Landline have a look here for the cheapest rates.

    Just to let you know.

Last weekend I had an email from her saying that she had been to the beach and had two days admin work in front of her and it was positive and happy so I emailed back I was glad to get positive news.

However it has all gone downhill since then. I got an email from her yesterday morning to say that her friend who she is staying with has booked a flight to Sydney in January so she will be alone. Not only alone but without accomodation and would be living in a shared dorm and probably would have to find work in a bar. She also said she was down to her last £200.

I therefore emailed her back and asked if she wanted to come home as she has been offered an important interview here on Monday 6th.

Basically, she said yes please and I have booked her onto a flight to arrive back on Saturday morning. I am so relieved and am praying for the snow to stay away from Heathrow. It can chuck it down in bucketloads here as long as Heathrow remains operating.

She thinks she is a loser for giving up but what else can she do really?

    So pleased for you.

Of course she is not a loser, we have all at some time in our lives tried something that has not worked out. Good on her for trying.
  • It's very hard when they leave home isn't it.
My youngest son has been here for a couple of years and moved out today.
I knew it was on the cards because he has a physical job and has been commuting backwards and forwards for the past few weeks.
Since the snow has hit us quite heavy, he has been staying in B&B and has decided to stay there and get as much overtime as he can.
    I feel really sad.
Suppose I had got so used to being Mum and doing what us Mum's do best.
I am sure your daughter has made the right decision and will love being back at home with such a lovely Mum as you.

Wow! How can she think that? She's not giving up. She's making a mature decision about how best to live her life AT THE MOMENT. If she was too stubborn to do what was right for her for fear of being seen to be 'giving up', then maybe I'd think she was foolish, but this sounds like the right plan for her for now.

And, as a bonus, you get to be together for Christmas. Win-win! Good on her.
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.
