But you got the parcel so what's the problem? If someone had stolen it Amazon would have sent another or given your money back.

Fair point, I did receive the parcel. However, my point was that the delivery person was not to know that and that their interpretation of 'safe' leaves a lot to be desired. Especially seeing as I brought this to their attention last time - you'd think if it was a delivery to a customer who complained once they would take extra care not to do the same again. Plus I didn't want to wait for another as it was a gift and I didn't want my money back because, again, it was a gift. I order items in the belief that it will be delivered safe and within the timescale given - not that I'll have to ask for money back. I'd just not purchase it in the first place if I knew that was going to happen. :o

I can't remember who pointed out what, so please forgive me as I'm new to working out how this forum works (hence, why I'm late replying!) When I started this thread I didn't realise how many people would know what I was talking about! Thanks for all your similar tales and I feel so bad for some of you who have had worse experiences (items delivered indoors and some discovered years later!). But someone made a point about timing...the anticipated delivery day covers three possible days. I was off one of them. As it happens they delivered it a day later than the latest day anyway. Also, I have a decent neighbour who would have been happy to take the parcel in. Or I would have re-arranged a suitable delivery time. A lot of people can't wait in indefinitely for parcels...I'm happy to collect from a suitably 'safe' place. That doesn't include under my doormat in full view of anyone passing! And many workplaces don't allow personal parcels.

Someone else pointed out that they were confident items wouldn't be stolen because of the area they live in. I'm reasonably confident of that too but a decent area doesn't automatically mean decent people sadly. The point was more about the 'genius' of this delivery man who was sooo great at applying good old common sense! :rotfl:
This time last year - 3 credit cards and 2 overdrafts maxed out. This year - no overdrafts and one card with reasonable balance! It's strangely satisfying getting them cleared!

not sure what companys my parcels are delivered by have had some terrible deliveries.

xmas 2006 i think it was when the xbox 360 came out i ordered one from pc world which never arrived apparntly it was left inside the camper van on my mums drive with the door open! why they even thought they had the right to go into the camper is beyond me.

when i lived in a block of flats my parcels were always gettin left in the rubbish shed which was very annoying as sometimes my neighbour would empty the shed on rubbish day so 1 or 2 parcel ended up going to the tip!

the last 2 weeks ive had peacocks leave a parcel in 'my porch' ( i dont even have a porch) which went missing i was out from 9am-8pm so not to sure what happened to that or if it was even really delivered. play.com left a CD player with someone on my street 4 doors down and didnt even leave a card to say it had been delivered or attempted etc luckily my street is full of nice honest people.

it really is frustrating when parcels are left damaged etc due to the couriers.

but i do have to say when i get parcels via my postman they are always left in a safe + dry place where they will not get damaged/stolen :)

I am generally very grateful if couriers etc leave the parcel anywhere rather than having to go and collect it which is always a nightmare but...recently we had ordered something and we got an email saying they had tried to deliver twice so we only had one more chance or they would take it back to the depot. We had not received a card or anything and when we checked what address they were delivering to they only had the postcode (and no house number) which is all of the houses on our side of the street (about 30 - 40). So we phoned up the couriers and they swore blind they had tried to deliver it twice and we said how could you, you were not delivering it to any particular house! Eventually they did deliver it to our house.

3 yrs ago they hurled a PS2 over my 7ft side gate. told amazon that i refused to open or accept it and they need to send me another 1. Lucky it arrived on xmas eve by SD. They KNEW not to send another by hdnl!!

shortly after i had a delivery by them from another company. the bag was ripped and the clothes stunk of smoke. got a full refund and a new item.

HDNL r shockingly AWFUL. they must be a hella cheap 4 companies to still sue them over others.

I once ordered a dress from Littlewoods described as "delivered hanging" it was not a cheap dress (£100) and I intended to wear it for my graduation ball. I got home to find that the HDNL courier had wrapped the dress around the hanger and posted it through the letterbox! I didn't open the package but could see through the wrapper that it was not damaged but badly creased - I phoned Littlewoods to complain on principle and made them come back and collect the dress (which I left outside the front door in a crumpled heap!)

was there any indication on the packaging to tell the courier it couldnt be folded?
  • I had a postie who was obviously in training for the England rugby team who was incredibly fond of drop kicking parcels over a 7 foot garden wall at one point.

Also have some fantastic couriers on this patch (I know a lot of them from being an exam marker so I have to accept script deliveries during marking season) who really do make sure they come round the back of the house and leave things tucked in carefully by our back doorstep nowadays. Also the postie who saw the TV was on so assumed I was just being slow to get to the door and waited patiently watching the weather forecast through the window while I played hunt the house keys and ran round the side of the house (our front door's borked and doesn't unlock properly).
