We had an agreement with our postie to leave any parcels in the recycling bin in our back garden when we weren't in. One morning I let the dog out, left dh in bed and went to work. I got home, both dh and dog upstairs still sleeping. Went in the conservatory and there was a parcel on the sofa. I never shut the back door before I left so postie must have seen it and put the parcel on the sofa.
I didn't mind it but what boogles me is how dh or the dog never heard the doorbell in the first place and how the postie was able to get in the garden without alerting the dog,who is a big german sheperd and usually alerts us to any movement outside the front door or garden.
Guess the 2 were so tired/lazy nothing would've got them out of bed. :D

bet if you had a card left, you would have insisted you OH or the dog would have heard the doorbell ;)

We are always having parcels left either in a wheelie bin, in the meter cupboard - or the best yet - in the BBQ in the back garden. How the guy knew there was a BBQ I have no idea, but, it was a great storage place that kept the item dry and relatively safe! I mean, who would think of walking down the side of a house and down a 15ft garden to a BBQ to find post!

We've just been treated to the Amazon HDNL treatment.
Even though there was someone home, they pushed a card through the door. The only thing written on it was the word FLAT (in the space for the addressee name).
Now next door are 12 flats. So we assumed there was a parcel for us in one of the flats. Do you know how long it takes to contact all the flats before we found the one which had the parcel and the occupant was in? Two days on and off.
    Open the parcel, wrong item!

Amazon's big mistake in using cheap couriers.

Why can't online stores give the customer a choice - I'd rather pay more and have it delivered by Royal Mail.

They once left my new ps3 from amazon on the doorstep of my house, on one of the busiest roads in the city, in the rain. How the hell is that a safe place?
  • The best 'safe place' I had a postie use was on the seat of my motorbike around the back of the house, underneath the raincover! :T

The worst was many years ago when I lived in a terrace on a busy road with a tiny front 'yard' between the south-facing front door and the pavement. The postie left my parcel on the front doorstep on the hottest day of the year.

The batteries I had ordered had melted inside the parcel. In fact it might have been better if a passing stranger had of helped themselves, at least it wouldn't have been wasted goods!

When we lived in our old house (we moved in March), I remember our neighbour knocking about 4 years ago asking if we had taken a parcel in for her. Told her we hadn't and that was that.

In between our houses there was a car port. In 2008, it was ripped down by the landlord of next door. Guess what was on the roof?

The missing parcel from 3 years before.

Ordered stuff, never arrived. Enqiured, and was told they had a signature, and had delivered it. No they hadn't- I was in my porch that day enjoying the sun.
Delivery driver adamant he had delivered, company stopped just short of implying my partner was lying.
Agreed their driver would drive down our road, and stop at the house he delivered it to.

Cue us waving from the other end of the road, asking the depot to ask him if he could see anyone waving......

Our parcel was with us the next day.
