  • Ain't worried about the fact there is snow on the way, but now the timing is right to change my tyres after passing MOT (with notes saying they need doing - yes I know,,,) yesterday and thought I do it now before winter gets worse

So muggins here calls 4 different high street tyre monkey fitters with list of 3 brand and models of winter tryres and all I get from everyone of them...

"Sorry sir, but we can't source or stock any winter tyres"

    !!!!!!!! Totally disgraceful

So want to be a safe driver when Im on the roads in the middle of nowhere in the snow etc (as I drive HGV;s for a living so early starts etc) and I can't even get the basic winter tyre!!!

    mytyres.co.uk here I come.

I deal with winter tyres for company vehicles try ATS or KWICFIT they can normally do it and if need tyres ordering in they normally complete it within a 4 hour time limit

Tried them, can't find any winter ones for my size (185/55 R15 82)
    http://www.tyres-pneus-online.co.uk/car-tyres-185-55-15.html

Change tyre type to 'Winter car tyres' and there is 15 results ranging from £53-£110.

Note: Never used this website before but found it when I was looking for winter tyres.

There's enough threads on here in the last couple of days where we have bought them.
No problem at all from mytyres, camskill, even kwikfit.
  • Lord Baden-Powell must be turning in his grave, why do people leave everything till the last minute then wonder why their local tyre places doesn't have a vast selection of winter tyres at bargain basement prices.

Used to get colway rally remould tyres for winter use, But they went into administration in 2007.

    Try racetyres.com

Or try some of the websites for club rallying see what they use these days. Colway remoulds used to be better than
the original tyre. Very strong and well made.

If you spend most of your driving time in a truck thn it doesnt make economic sense to fit a new set of tyres just to last a couple of months, at the end of the bad weather you have to change again and then store your winter tyres somewhere till next year as they are near useless in good weather
    Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.

Google Michelin Alpin and 185/55 and you'll find plenty.

fwiw I read in a car mag article last week that an ordinary car fitted with winter tyres has more grip in cold conditions than a 4x4 fitted with normal tyres.

It doesn't have to be snowing for winter tyres to be useful, anything under (plus) 5 degrees C and they're earning their keep because normal weather tyres don't behave the same in cold temps as they do normally.

I've been arguing that point for the past few months on these forum's, but still people are going out and buying 4x4's instead.... Money saving at it's best

Probably a lot more grip in the rather important areas of cornering and braking. Going forwards is only part of the problem.

Now a 4x4 with winter tyres...
