Why is sooo hard to find winter tyres

Ain't worried about the fact there is snow on the way, but now the timing is right to change my tyres after passing MOT (with notes saying they need doing - yes I know,,,) yesterday and thought I do it now before winter gets worse
So muggins here calls 4 different high street tyre monkey fitters with list of 3 brand and models of winter tryres and all I get from everyone of them...
"Sorry sir, but we can't source or stock any winter tyres"
!!!!!!!! Totally disgraceful
So want to be a safe driver when Im on the roads in the middle of nowhere in the snow etc (as I drive HGV;s for a living so early starts etc) and I can't even get the basic winter tyre!!!

Had the same issue, we Brits are too tight to buy a set of winter tyre's, so there's just no demand.... But we'll happily waste money on a 4x4.
I called several places and one of the even told me to stop wasting their time.

The UK has limited stocks and the worst time to buy them is in winter.

I've found some for mine... £250 each :eek:
I might be a typical British tight @rse, but that is a lot of money. There doesn't seem to be any cheaper alternative.

Yup. I think I'm just going to fit them to wifey's car. £31.70 each. 185/60x14
