Twinmum that's probably why our sons old HT would insist on anyone interviewed either lived locally or had an alternative plan to attend as it was in an area notorious for poor roads and buses being cancelled. He used to walk several miles and expected everyone to make the same effort. Was a little 'unrest' when he started there with that policy to say the least as they were used to several snow days a term before and after winter. The policy should include for out of county provision and include a registration system inc all relevant checks read for if such weather occurs. Then of course SEN heads will probably have an issue but over time and as these years get worse I think it will happen. People I know are taking work closer to home where possible etc. If we were in Russia and didn't go to work because of weather they'd sack us, if the kids didn't go to school they'd have the legal equivalent to SS round lol. Looking at the last couple of years, it's something we're all going to have to get use to.
I think a lot of schools/staff have got used to a crazy number of snow days. My previous school was terrible with snow. To be fair it did suffer worse from any bad weather but staff just didn't bother getting out of bed if there was a flake of snow. I used to set off early and battle to get there only to find that 4/5 of the staff hadn't even tried to get into their cars. The school would close at 8.30am every time when an earlier decision could have been made.
I love that my new school is very hard about doing anything you can to get in. If driving is impossible tomorrow then I can walk 4 miles to the train station and get to a station about 1/2 mile from school. I am more than happy to do that if school is open (but in all honesty would be a little miffed if I walk for 4 miles trhrough the snow and then get the train, which only runs every 2 hrs to find that school closes but the decision is made late!)
Can you tell I get a little stressed about snow?Est. debt free day April 2016 (ish) Debt at June 2010 £34,247.13Debt at Dec 2011 £27,499.09 (19.7% paid off)Working together with DH on our debts (twindad07)Long haulers supporters DFW #2560 -
Just flying in to say WELL DONE for today!!! Sounds like you achieved LOADS.
I tried the flylady thing but don't have the patience for it - Like you, I need to be in the mood for it and then race round the house like a tasmanian devil flinging things in boxes/bags/drawers/cupboards etc until its all done.
Did my lounge a few days ago - was amazed how much I got done in a fairly short space of time. Need to do my kitchen tonight as my Mum is coming tomorrow to look after the children whilst I go to work - I used to be VERY bothered about her comments about the state of my house but i've now told her that if she has a problem with it then she is MORE than welcome to get on and do it herselfShe said she would... did a few bits and cba after that as she said its much too difficult with the twins here
My point exactly
MY TIP - If I know I am short of time but need to make a BIG dent in the state of the house, then I put a timer on and do 15 mins per room starting with the easiest and finishing with the most difficult because your motivation increases when you see your achievements0 -

Did I tell you the story the boiler man told me about someone with an aga that kept cutting out? He'd replaced the same part three times and had begun to despair, when one day it cut out while he was there.
It was the family great dane lying up against the air vents in the door over the controls, blocking them and making it cut out:rotfl:
:rotfl::rotfl:Oooh - looking forward to the new thread and my first proper week with you guys. Roughly what time will the new thread be put up?
Is it sad that i am hoping school is shut tomorrow not for the excitement of a day off but so I can make a great start on Monday's list!!!!

Decluttering and Old Style Flylady sorted me out, and I can now keep on top of it all, bt it took me months

Cath,
If it helps I look at all the things I have that I don't use and think of those people that don't have much and that helps me get rid a lot quicker. xMe, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

I've got some of the old fashioned "spikes" to impale paperwork on. One for receipts, one for bills etc. It makes it easier to find stuff as it will at least be in chronological order......0
