Twinmum07 I was over Witton earlier, roads didn't seem too bad, main roads were clear (the bus route) through, just need to be careful in the estates) DS1s support worker lives in Sacriston and managed it in his corsa on Saturday. My Mam lives in Aycliffe and she's getting to work at the arnison centre ok so you should be ok. I was talking to a neighbour who works in a county school and she said they have been told if they can't get to where they work to go to the nearest school to them and report in. Think that's after all the commotion last year when so many closed.

Right DSs bathed, boiler keeps going off so I'm about ready to scream! Mainly when I go to use hot water and guess what, DP gave out calor heater to his brother !!!!!!! Anyway council to call tomorrow so I best go make things look better for when they arrive optimistic maybe thinking they will send someone out the same day?

Ok first, kitchen tidy, then front hall way then boys in bed
One day I might be more organised...........

Do the council have a 24 hour phone service so that you can call tonight for tomorrow?

Anybody in the family need to stay warm for medical reasons? I think that can be a priority when the heating packs up. Even these days...;)

Another busy week coming to it's end. Looking forward to the new thread.
  • Thanks Lil - it doesn't sound as bad as we feared then. We have been told that we have to use public transort if it is running so I can get the train if the car is no good.
The Co. Durham policy is that is you are unable to get to your own school then you should report to your nearest Co. Durham school but in our cases we have to travel through a few school boroughs to get to our nearest CD school. Sadly due to CRB checks schools in other boroughs can't really accept other teachers. Having said that I have never come across anyone who has ever reported to a different school nor has anyone ever turned up at ours!!!

I have got half the bottom floor mopped but was held up as last time i mopped the kids were around so i stuck the bucket in the back garden before they could 'help' - the mop was frozen onto the drainy thingy and the old snow had melted in the bucket and then frozen so it took me ages to defrost it first!

  • Thanks all for your suggestions. There is a forest nearby I might go and have a look if there is some wood in there. I just don't know if that is classed as stealing or not? Someone told me I could get a licence from the Forestry Commision or something which allows me to collect wood. But it costs about £20 so that is a no go anyway.

DD has the day off school tomorrow. Teacher's training day. So another day of heating the front room. Ho hum.

Twinmum that's probably why our sons old HT would insist on anyone interviewed either lived locally or had an alternative plan to attend as it was in an area notorious for poor roads and buses being cancelled. He used to walk several miles and expected everyone to make the same effort. Was a little 'unrest' when he started there with that policy to say the least as they were used to several snow days a term before and after winter. The policy should include for out of county provision and include a registration system inc all relevant checks read for if such weather occurs. Then of course SEN heads will probably have an issue but over time and as these years get worse I think it will happen. People I know are taking work closer to home where possible etc. If we were in Russia and didn't go to work because of weather they'd sack us, if the kids didn't go to school they'd have the legal equivalent to SS round lol. Looking at the last couple of years, it's something we're all going to have to get use to.

One more tip - do you need to declutter? You can't tidy up if you have clutter - you just move it around :o

I do speak from bitter experience. I'm a hoarder, come from a family of hoarders and married a hoarder :p

Decluttering and Old Style Flylady sorted me out, and I can now keep on top of it all, bt it took me months :)

I do, I do, but, I'm so bad at it! I gather bags of clothes, shoes, books etc., then recheck, remove those items 'which may come in useful' and I've not got enough to give to the charity shop.

So I now have piles of stuff in need of a home, bags of stuff waiting topping up and charity shopping, then there's books, which DH and DD rummage through before they get to the charity shop, now helpfully spilling out of bags due to rummage factor.

Sigh,I will get a handle on it, but am fluey at the mo, so don't care.
I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.

Well for once I don't want a snow day because I want my plumbers here to finish off. Other than that I could use some time to get more jobs done...
