  • Hi

It is funny you should mention that poem as I was just thinking about it the other day. We are pretty stubborn so i feel like we are out there drowning but if anyone looks our way we try to pass it off as though we are waving!

I think we all have a mindset that the man always goes out to work but the woman can do either but the thinking is starting to come round a little so good on both of you for doing what works for you as a unit.

I guess most of us on here lived beyond our means and that is why we are here.

    Good luck on your journey

just think ahead that in seven years time you will be debt free and you will have learnt a valuable lesson on the way probably nearly everybody on these boards have acted in the same way as you and have all had that dreadful moment when realisation hits home of ' oh what have i done', at least you are taking action now instead of a couple of years time when the amount would have been even higher. Good luck in your journey and remember we are all behind you, keep coming on these boards i have found them a great help especially on down days.

  • Hi kdenty,

I just bobbed across from the PAD board and have read your posts with interest. I recall vividly the day I realised the enormity of my debts - at the worst it was £35k+ - an it does make your knees buckle slightly, but it does get easier I promise.

Slow steady progress and treat each day as a mini-milestone :j

Good luck with your plans, I'll be back for updates!

You've come up with some great ideas i had to take some of my cards out of my purse and only take a couple of pounds out with me cos like you i cant trust myself in shops but since starting this crusade i am getting better starting to question what i am buying.

I try and put £2 a week on a xmas card so at xmas i know i have enough for food which is one less expense.

Keep going we're all behind you.

Have just subscribed to your thread. I'm in a similar debt position to you (look at my signature).

Know what you mean about two steps forward three steps back, I've been doing that for the last couple of year. I'm back in the same amount of debt as I was 2 years ago, I don't like to think of how much I've wasted, but it's time to change!
Halifax Credit Card £10,424.00 Cahoot Loan £7,090.00 Other Loan £7,172.67 Computer £610.00
Grand Total £25,296.67 Estimated DFD Sep-2015
Target is to pay off computer debt by Feb-11 - Paid £19 out of £629.
Looking forward to a debt busting 2011 :T

  • Just wanted to pop in and say hello, these diaries are such a motivation to clearing your debts. I had around £20k total of debts in 2007 and am now sitting at around £8k. Its a long hard slog but I'm slowly getting there after a few blips along the way!!

You sound like you have a good plan to cut back and make extra payments. I do a menu for the week before I do food shopping and only buy what we need for those meals and a few snacky things in between (mainly for when I am watching TV at nights!!). I only spend £45 per week, thats for 2 adults and 1 3 year old, and it quite often covers my lunches too. We've not even necessarily switched to cheaper brands, but we have switched from Tesco to Asda and it definately is a saving.

Do you ebay, and are you a Quidco or any other cashback site member? I find those useful. I've cleared out so many times and sold so much things on ebay, I'm pretty much running out of things to sell!! I always look at ebay sales as money you wouldn't have had, so its a bonus towards the debts. Quidco is also good if you do your grocery shopping online, as you get cashback on everything you spend.

Hopefully you have a successful debt free journey, I will pop back in to see how you are doing and see if you have any tips I can copy!!

    CwC :)
