Will have to have a read of the thread. In need of a good laugh. Although I did have hysterics this morning. My conversations with the insurance company this week have all been about the hire company not getting a car to me as promised. The hire car company contracted by the insurance is in Carmarthen one and half hours drive away ( I make this drive regularly so know it well) so they subcontracted it out because they told me I was too far away. The subcontracting company tried hiring a car from somewhere that is 5 hours away (go figure) and they are now snowed in. There is a hire company that I use for work just 20 minutes away and they have a car. So the conversations went like this

Me The subcontract company say no cars are available. I know there is one 20 minutes away and can be delivered this afternoon. I need it as I have no food in the house and no dog food. I cannot get to the shops 7 miles away as there is no bus service
Her Please hold the line I will phone the original hire company and see what can me done

    Music for 5 minutes

Her - hello - I have the Carmarthen hire company on the phone. They say they will try to get a car to you this afternoon. But if you would like it sooner and can make your way to the depot then you can pick it up immediately.
Me - I just told you that I have no way of getting into the nearest town which is 7 miles away, how do you expect me to get to the depot which is one and half hours drive away so at least 4 hours on the buses in this weather
Her - perhaps you could drive there
Me - I have no car...................
Her - Oh, that would be a problem wouldnt it.

    Priceless

Decided it was time to emerge from Lurkdom again! Haven’t spent much time in my study for a few days since DH woke me at 7am on Saturday with the news that our (less than 5 years old, regularly serviced) boiler had gone “Phut”. Our plumber was very good and came out that morning but it needs a part which no-one locally carries. I managed to find said part online and it left Plymouth on Tuesday morning. I had hoped it might arrive before the snow but no such luck! Compared to many of you, we’ve got off lightly (a mere 20cm or so) and, luckily, have a motley collection of electric heaters so are able to keep the chill off the rooms we use most, but it’s not what you’d call balmy! A neighbour has loaned us a small panel heater so I no longer lose the feeling in my fingers when I’m in my study. (Could read stuff but not type much.)

The Manchester course seems to have gone really well. As things have turned-out, it’s just as well that the London one was postponed, isn’t it?

Keep the recipies coming, MG! The spiced red cabbage is a favourite in this house and I can vouch for the mince pie pastry – though I reduce the sugar considerably. (DH is diabetic and on a diet, so shouldn’t really be eating mince pies at all but it wouldn’t be Christmas without them.) I make a similar mocha mix, too, but as I don’t have a sweet tooth I use a smaller proportion of cocoa powder instead of the hot choc/milkshake powder.

Happy Chunakah, everybody! (DH is a non-observant Jew – and I’m a deeply committed Aethiest – but we do give a passing nod at the Festivals. Can’t find any candles to fit the menora, though.)

    Keep warm, everybody

Can you send me a few Matrix positive vibes please - about to go to a meeting with two people at work I haven't met before but have given me a bit of a hard time by phone/ email. Bit scared!

Mega positive Matrix vibes coming your way, am sure you will totally rock it.
When i went for parrot food this morning I also went to try and get some wellies lol totally sold out everywhere.
I even missed the sign on the hope door stating they were sold out, but I popped into the local Littlewoods bagain shop and got the more gorgeous and impractical, black knee length boots (leather) for £15, so does that count as being MSE, they were originally £60.....................?????

Yes, vibes to Squizz, hopefully you'll be fine - people find it much harder to be mean in person than on the phone, and hopefully you'll win them over with a winning smile and a refusal to give in to their meanness! :T

That is *amazing*. I've had one experience like that - it felt like the consciousness of my guardian angel had entered this man I happened to meet on a train. Truly weird.

Robsmum, let us know what happens/what jumps out when you read the book again.

That was just how it felt! Will let you know. I must say that since then I so far feel like my ooomph is seeping back. Very strange.....

    Robsmum,
Are you sure the elderly neighbour (or her daughter) isn't a lurker on here?!

    Cheriesong,
    Any progress re the car?

Redsquirrel (and anyone else who needs them),
Positive vibes from this neck of the woods, too (though a bit late in the day, I see!)
