Think the short answer is - we have found our collective Mojo'a and are looking and feeling brighter:D

    Is that right ladies?

  • Morning!! What a delightful day. It's Payday. It's 4 hours and then I have 11 days off. Glorious :D

The weather is delicious and it looks set to stay that way.

I should get a list written of little jobs though, I'd be annoyed if I wasted the time off completely. Do pester me if I don't post something to that effect today please ;)

I would love to do Jury Service - are you allowed to volunteer?

DH did jury service just before Christmas. It was nothing very dramatic, but involved two teenage boys and it was harrowing knowing that if they got it wrong it would ruin their lives. I think the whole jury were put through the wringer by it. He was impressed by how sound the system is - very different people with different points of view but using their common sense and thinking carefully, but he found it a terrible responsibility
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!
  • Morning Matrix. Back from a day "off" which was so madly busy, I am having a rest at work with my usual massive list of things to do!! :D

The singing engagement went really well yesterday. I was part of a choir of 60 odd people, and the noise we made was spectacular. Even the Bishop mentioned it... and the music director got a round of applause from the whole congregation (and whoops and cheers from us!) :D

And I managed to get all three !!!!! cats in the their boxes and to the vet for their general maintenance check and booster shots. Alfie was deeply unimpressed with the box and the car ride... and told me off roundly all the way there and back again!! :D However, they all love me this morning, so I am happy!!

Right... off to work I go. Have a good day everyone and I will pop in again a bit later! :D

I am not sure I'd want to do jury service, cannot abide the thought of something really tedious like tax evasion (:o) and would hate to be involved something truly horrific. I'd hate to see evidence that I couldn't "unsee" IYSWIM.

Hmmmmmm I am terrified of big hairy spiders. I am learning to cope with little ones, OK by that I mean really tiny ones :o Not sure DD would cope with a big beastie either (she hates them) and no she's not picked this issue up from me. I might be terrified but when it's mini beast looking time I suck it up and enthuse along with the kids about how wonderful insects are :rotfl:

Been a bit slack with the goal of using the SC once a week and I haven't investigated any new recipes :o Although to my credit I do have a piece of beef in SC for tea tonight which I think is the first time I've used it for 2 weeks. H is off out tonight so perhaps I could investigate some more summer food recipes, most of mine seem to be geared towards Winter...........

For the last couple of years I have been squirrelling away my coins and extra pennies into jars marked

    TV Licence
    Car Tax
    House Insurance
    Car Insurance

We emptied out these this morning and with a bit of juggling (suggestion is adding £50 to the grocery challenge and aiming for 100 days on £150) I should be able to put these monthly direct debits onto an annual payment when they are up for renewal.

Monthly is more expensive - so I will be better off by a few pounds per month - setting up transfers into my savings account for next years bills instead.

This has made me feel very grown up and responsible:D

I know its not as impressive as yesterdays Pension suprise - but it makes me very happy nonetheless.

So - moving forward...... My Dad's new temp job looks like it is going to run for a while - so he is too tired to help my sort out my terracing in the garden.

The problem is I have planted all our seeds - so they will need to be transplanted somewhere.

So my "persistance Frog" for the next 4 weeks or so will be to dig the garden for 15 minutes per day to move all the soil in to the right position. Looking at it seems such a scary job, but I'm pretty certain that I can survive 15 minutes per day:cool:

Fingers crossed my back holds out :p

Should hold out on 15 minutes a day MG! :T Well done you! :T :T

Tellmeitsfriday - I suspect you can't volunteer for jury service - otherwise folk like me who hate the idea of sitting in judgement of other people wouldn't ever do it, and people who had big vested interests would do it all the time, and I'm not sure that would make for a very good justice system overall (I might be wrong though!). There might be other things you could do though - possibly some kind of community magistrate type thing?? What kind of thing is it that you fancy about jury service in particular? (my friend's doing it at the minute and is most distressed that they won't let her take her knitting into the waiting area outsside the court!) :)
  • Bitsy Beans, I too struggle with ideas for the slow cooker in the summer. I have just ordered a box of chicken breast fillets from my butcher. Very MSE, a box of 28-30 fillets, and they are all large ones and english to boot, for £28.00. :money:

Just making room in my freezer then i am going to try and cook up some chicken and sauce bases in the SC that can be used with pasta or jacket potatoes.

If anyone else has any other ideas please share!

Another wonderful sunny day, DS and i are going to make him an "easter cowboy hat" as he refuses to have an easter bonnet :rotfl:(too girly) and then make the most of the weather in the garden/park.

I have applied to be a Magistrate, but they pick you based on the group they currently have. So as they already have an accountant, with a degree, working in the Public Sector already, they don't want another. If I was a bricklayer or something like that, they would have bitten my hand off. I am on a waiting list - it seems that they are really lacking in [potentially offensive description alert] people with working class type jobs. !!!!!! has applied too - and they want him (he's a bus driver after an early mid life crisis about 5 years ago).

I also like the idea of debt counselling at CAB, but obviously working FT normal office hours, I can only really do after work or weekends - and those slots are full too.

...Jury Service really appeals though, not sure why. It's just something I think I would 'enjoy' (but not in the fun sense of the word).
  • I did Jury Service a few years ago. The trial I was on was really quite heart wrenching and I found it all very difficult to cope with. :( However, finding the git guilty and sending him down was very rewarding. :D

The worst bit about doing it though was the waiting around. Oh my goodness... take your knitting/a good book/a laptop. If you don't, you will die of boredom within the first day!
