Morning all, white up here today. Snow lay overnight and it's still going! I can see my shop fro my window so this is proper city centre snow. God knows how my staff are going to get in. Hate it as don't have proper shoes for the snow (don't do flatties) and have to don a smart coat and trainers!!!!!! Going to invest in wellies when I get paid on Tuesday me thinks.

Working through to next weekend now and then taking DT out and meeting Flying Freesian which I'm really looking forward to. Very skint til Tuesday but got loads of food in so I'll be okay. X

    Morning all

I've been MIA all week - have been working on my 50day challenge (getting santa's sacks filled!) and also succumbed to a horrendous cold a week gone Friday which is still lingering and making me feel pants!! I did manage to keep working through it though so at least I haven't lost any wages :)

I've skimmed the lovely new thread and hugs to those that need them and congratulations on another good training day MG.

I smoked for ten years, stopped for seven then smoked for another 8 before stopping in June 2009 and i used the Champix tablets - not to be taken lightly however for me the worked and made stopping an absolute breeze! My husband didn't manage to stop but he wasn't good at taking the tablets regularly. And we smoked for different reasons - he reached for the cigarettes as a stress relief where I reached for them out of habit/boredom which I think is why it was easier for me. The first time I quit I did it on willpower and it was very difficult but I think it depends on your motivation - If you're quitting because of a particular reason (ie you can't afford it) but still want to smoke you are doomed to fail. I went along the line of 'I could smoke if I wanted to...but I choose not to' I carried my cigarettes around for weeks lol

  • Well I have a blizzard blowing outside . And a car wheelspinning as it tries to drive up the street right outside the window. Don't know if I'll make work tomorrow (will try) but I work in a little village about 10 miles drive on little windy roads with hills on each side :eek: so who knows.
Thank you for the comments about smoking, its an issue which needs to be addressed, perhaps with babysteps. More food for thought (but if i procrastinate too long, nothing will be even attempted).
I hope MG's drive back was'nt too horrendous with this god awful weather.

I was just thinking about MG's journey - hope you got home quickly and safely MG!

Off out to a meeting and then it'll be marking/checking here and the matrix this afternoon.

Hope everyone has a fabulously positive day despite the chilly weather/snow drifts!

Oh RESPECT!!!! Just seen an older woman cycling past - it's not snowy here, but is really frosty and icy. She's following the wet tyre tracks on the road. Wow!

Fantasia322 - why not look at the NHS stop smoking website, I think you can get patches cheaply via the doctors (either if you're on free prescriptions or you pay for the annual certificate), also they have support groups etc.. Supposedly they have a good success rate, and are a relatively cheap way to try for a start.

From OH giving up smoking, I know it was more a social/situation thing after the initial stopping, e.g. out socially with a lot of people from work and most smoke, and gets tempted, even though now he normally hates the smell of cigarette smoke anywhere and hates being near people smoking. So only advice would be to look for the trigger situations and try to avoid them, or look for an alternative to the cigs.

    Morning Matix,

Snow has stopped for a bit here but due to depth of snow I'm not going out today so today will be a TADA day. I actually don't mind driving in snow - I had to learn this living in the farm cottage and getting to work on a road that's not even on a map. It's other drivers who worry me - the ones who won't leave enough distance between cars, brake sharply & don't have patience. And before you say it I'm not a Sunday driver

Anyway - Winky - congratulations on Saskia - hope you are both well & enjoying your first few days together

Boddy - glad to hear from you but remember, don't expect too much from yourself. It's a hard time of year for what you are going through - don't feel you have to join in with the festivities - people will understand.

Susan - glad the op went well

To all those who are poorly - get well soon and look after yourself

Fantasia - the smoking. I've never been a smoker so can't comment but my boss has been off the ciggies for 7 weeks & goes to the pharmasist weekly & she says it's been really good for her - might be worth considering....

MG - hope you read this before you set off - WATCH THE ROADS. DH HAD PROBLEMS GETTING OUT THIS MORNING

And I'm off on holiday for a week :j:j

    So to the TADA lists

Timer is beside me & the house is getting cleaned & tidied today

    First TADA has been done

3 baskets of logs have been brought in
Spade, shovel & big wiper blade thing (for clearing cars of snow) are in
Steps at front and back have been cleared of 3in of snow
Neighbour & I have pushed DH car our of drive
Have shovelled snow from part of drive so if there is a freeze DH can get in tonight - but this will be an ongoing challenge during the day - probably another 4 shovelleing sessions needed assuming there is no more snow.

So having a well deserved cup of tea (mint & eucalyptus to empty the box & help clear the cupboards) & then will set off on TADA no 2

    Tada number 2 done

Picked up stuff from round house
    Made bed
Emptied ironing basket of non-ironing & have put away
Emptied dishwaser & put discovered dirty dishes back in washer
    Washed & put away pots
    Washing on
Have shovelled another 3 foot long car wide path from drive - And I'm unfit.

Now for another cup of tea & some oxygen.

Next TADA will be conservatory polishing furniture & steaming the floor

    Have a good one folks

Clootie, you put me to shame lol,
We have scraped cars, all shiny and snow free, plus path in front garden and pavement in front of house. I have the breadmaker on (yum) smells lovely, got soup in slowcooker, and lovely stodgy stovies on the go too. Its still snowing here but its not flaky, its like falling in fine drizzly patches . And the grit bin at the bottom of the street is empty again. Oh well, nowt to be done apart from 'wait it out'.
I dont get paid till Wednesday an OH on Friday so having a very MSE couple of days here, plenty in cupboards so we won't starve lol.
