Interesting stuff indeed! MUST get Mr Daffs to dig out our mortgage stuff - I think we've only got about 4 years left (it was a 25 year mortgage), and it's never been overpaid, but perhaps we'd be able to shave a bit off the end if we sorted it out now...
Thanks for the link cherisong! I once read something in an Al Anon book about nagging that's stuck with me, and that I try to stick to. Can't remember the exact wording, but it was something like...
If you say something once, you're expressing an opinion. If you keep saying the same thing over and over again, you're trying to change someone else
The implication being of course, that you're more than entitled to express your opinion - but that other people don't necessarily have to take on board what you say and you have to accept that! (obviously there's far more to negotiation about housework than this, but I find it works in some situations to keep a check on myself!)
Following a few links from my 'art of living cheerfully' course, I came across this:

There's a few free downloads, and a newsletter, and there's quite a few links to various interviews etc with the author - plenty to read without having to buy the bookLooks interesting though

OMG The cake has risen loads!! It's huge!!!!Boiler pot £30.92/£10000

Been hauling filing cabinets out of my room (where they landed) into the office / classroom (where they are needed) and I am pooped:o
I am begining to regret starting this decluttering lark - even though I am sure it will make the house much easier to work / live in.
I need to change my midset from being a mum who goes out to work to one that works from home - and that means creating zones where I can be productive.
Its nowhere near perfect - but at least if I can get everything into the room / zone where its supposed to be than I can start daily decluttering a la flylady. Like she says "baby steps"
All this talk of mortgages should be terrifying me - making me concentrate on how little money we as a family have. The reality is that I have proved to everyone that we can live on "fresh air" - and the boys do without, but they are not "deprived" - at least we don't feel that way.
So the next little step will be to start proving the bank wrong and start paying off the mortgage bit by bit - by increasing my income and my aspirations.
The Old MG is beginning to appear again (for brief moments, but it is nice to have her back)

Morning - if there's cake, I'm over here! *waves*
We started OP'ing our mortgage back in 2008 I think it was (about the same time as I joined on here anyway and you can see that for yourselves!) and you can see in my sig how much we've reduced so far. The initial "OP" was actually slightly before that, as we opted for cutting a couple of years off the term when we got our new deal 5 years ago. We've now gradually uplifted the amount we pay as and when we've been able to - it's only been another £10 this year but hopefully later in the year we'll be able to do more.....It makes a massive difference though and is totally worth doing, with us it also had the effect of meaning that when Northern Rock split they moved us across to the "good bank" in spite of the fact that only about 5% of their mortgage business went over there.....we were chuffed with that as it means we'll be able to stay with them when we need to get a new deal later in the year if we want to. Our fixed rate has also meant that we've not had the benefit of the rate cuts of course - we've been on 5.39 so not great....
Right - I have holiday prep bits to be doing so must dash - will pop back in later on and see how everyone is. Crickett fingers crossed for desk moves being as un-traumatic as possible!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Thanks for all your kind thoughts. Desk move has gone really smoothly, and it is interesting... so far, the cowbag seems to be more intent on eating her banana (she has been nursing the thing all morning) and doing her work than spying on what I am doing. Good so far. Also, I have been working like a demon anyway... lots to do, lots of calls etc. So, along with the headphones and my music I have also brought out the major weapon in my arsenal... cinnamon leaf oil. In aromatherapy it is used to encourage concentration, and it works a treat! At least, for me it does. Brain is going 1500 miles and hour and I am being incredibly productive!!
So far, so good.

Good stuff Crickett! (perhaps, secretly, she's a little scared of you...

I was setting up two back-to-back desks for DS1 and I in the new classroom and you came to mind - I wondered how you were getting on with your new "best friend":rotfl:
Glad she is occupied - and you are being productve.
Now all you Matrix ladies - I nearly have an operational working space up here - positive vibes that the next year brings us all lots of success from these desks.

Thanks for that link, Cheery. :T I've just had a look and came across this : The simple act of cleaning something, even if it’s a drawer or just one shelf in the fridge, can help put your left-brain at ease so you can focus on creating. So take a few minutes to clear the clutter and make room for your creativity to flow.
I'm rather left brain dominated and can't get along with mind maps or the Palace of Memories technique - I'm a retired statistician by trade (accountancy was too exciting :rotfl:). I'm going to try this technique every day before I sit down to write. At the very least, I shall have a tidier house. :cool:But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?0
