DS2 now has trousers that reach his shoes and shorts in stock should we ever get a summer.
From a pair of mens size 40 jeans I got a pair of trousers and a pair of bermudas, same from a pair of chino's (both bought from the pound rack at local CS). Also got three shirts for a pound -so a two pairs of reversible shorts and enough left over to make a couple of those shirt things with the t-shirt arms from the elbows IYSWIM. Just need to rustle up a pattern after dinner and cut them to sew in the morning.
I now officially lurve my overlocker again - although it is a pain in the proverbial when it goes wrong.
Just texted DS's dad in SA OliveOyl - see if he knows anyone in customs - failing that does he still know anyone in the Police that go around and have a (ahem!) word!!!
DS1 wants to write to your kids BTW

Great news Fantasia. That will give you lots of confidence in yourself. I am so pleased for you. Loving the gratitude quotes too. It is so true that we dont stop enough to be grateful for what we have.
Hair now very short, very dark and I feel very swishy!!!Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, I will try again tomorrow -- Mary Anne Radmacher0 -
Thanks Cheri and everyone, my confidence is much higher because of this. Can do the job standing on my head, just out of practice, and while it doesnt make my heart sing, something that will, will now come along.
Im just so gobsmacked that they will meet me half way.
But I will go back on my terms, to stay earning. Have written down all the pro's and cons and what hit me, is that I can develop coping strategies for when it gets stressful. I have learned since joining the Matrix about positivity, gratitude, and counter-actions and reactions. this kind of wisdom is something I didnt have before.
So the gratitude thing is kind of a ripple effect, for me anyway.
Onwards and upwards. As always0 -
fantasia - when you're thinking about your terms, make a list very clearly of what is non-negotiable (e.g. working every weekend) and what is negotiable. Think about what THEY want - you have to trade giving them something they want for something you want. So they want your experience, passion and enthusiasm (erm... I hope you can fake that... they seem to think you've got it but you're telling us this isn't where you really want to be
) and you want a. enough money to live on and b. working hours/conditions that fit with your lifestyle. You could, for example, tell them that if they want you to work certain hours, then you bring your dog to work with you... And make sure the salary AND BENEFITS are appropriate. People often look only at the salary and forget the value (or otherwise) of the benefits package.
Woke up with a migraine this morning, so have achieved very little today. A bit of washing (still have half a dozen loads to go) and a little light gardening (disentangling and tying up some clematis) plus filling up the kindling, log baskets and coal bucket. Rough meal plan is also done, although I need to know whether a friend is still planning on visiting next weekend.
Plan is to have an early night with a bath and a more productive day tomorrow. Housework, gardening, hopefully a run and catching up on a few bits of work (if I can get some expenses done this weekend, I can take the paperwork in to the office on Monday as I may not be back there again for months).
MG - your DSs will make their future partners very happy. The lessons you are teaching them are invaluable, both in terms of skills and values. They are very lucky boys.
crickett - I've been meaning to say, if you want your CV reviewed, PM me. I do some career mentoring and have no CVs to play with at the moment (everyone has got new jobs, so its more 'how do I deal with my new boss/colleagues/job now I've talked my way into it' stuff right now).0 -
Sensible advice Greenbee, and my list is already written, a trade-off is fair and that is exactly what they will get, in a very competent, package namely, me.
And yes I can fake it, till I make it anyways.0 -
Wonderful news Fantasia - very pleased for you. And do listen to Greenbee - particularly about the benefits part I completely agree.
MG, how do you do these things? It is official - I am pretty hopeless in anything remotelky useful or practical. Oh well...one has to accept their lot.
BTW, nice to read all the chatter again.

In reply to my list of wants, would love to take my dogs to work but one is the size of a shetland pony and the other is schnauzer/labcross. It wouldn't work because in an open plan office too many people feeding titbits blah blah, and the dogs would be a distraction. Totally different if offices were privat but they arent.
I've asked for leeway with timing, they've agreed to part time.
I'm going back with the wage and grade I was at before (which I shouldnt be) so thats more than fair.
I've got to go through the 'induction' motions, fair also.
I get to choose who I work with because there are people there who havent got a clue at supervisor level, no people skills etc, and I'm not answering to a woman I caught in bed with my son literally :eek::eek:.
I also get to do performance management and training, (after all I trained all the top performers, gave them their skills and monitored all they were doing).
I will make this work to my advantage, Yeah admittedly I hate the job but the person who was responsible for the situation that caused me to walk out last September (she was actually the manager, was phased out, made redundant in Jan).
I'm a realist and a survivor, hence I need to be earning, but if this pans out the way I would like it to, and I will push now then it could end up making my heart sing. And I would so love to love my work x0 -

Too damn lazy to schlep 2 kids to the nearest city to kit a toddler out ....................
Besides since out Woolies shut you can't even buy a pair of socks in our town anymore, with the price of fuel you got to cost it into the equation too.
Even a cheapie pair of trousers for £5.00, probably cost £7.50 when you factor in the pre-tax earnings you have to make, fuel and time to go and get them in the city.
Easier to raid the pound rail and spend a couple of hours rustling up his summer wardrobe................... all co-ordinated too ........... and no football colours or logos :rotfl:

Spring is in the air methinks - DS1 is upstairs cleaning his room - unprompted:T
Laid all my seedling trays out in the yellow stuff that is in the garden this morning - will be sowing some more later (remember we are not free of frost for another 6 weeks or so, so sowing season slips by a month or so)
Couple of loads in the washing machine - then back to do DS2's shirts I think.
Onwards and onwards
