MG: Take a deep breath and count to 10! It doesn't matter if your out of kilter. you, your boys and Mum are what matter at te moment. All the rest will still be there later. I was given that advice when I first became my late Mum's carer and its the most useful advice I've ever had!:j
TMIF: Earache cures: Paracetomol and a warm hot water bottle on it. If it sems blocked for a few days warm some olive oil at night and put a few drops into ear. Softens the wax and relieves the pressure. DO NOT POKE OR JIGGLE WITH COTTON BUDS:eek: Am an expert on ear problems thanks to son and heir.:rotfl:
Cricket: You have my sympathy- it's the same in my house in reverse. I'm suffering and now confined to spare room!
OH is on medication for arthritis wich affects his immune system and has to avoid live viruses etc. Any suggestions how you avoid contact in a small 2 bed house, 1 living room etc.?
Hugs to everyone who needs them off for a long soak and early night in my lonely little room:(Debt at start of DMP 1/6/09: £2942 - £1942

snowed here today too MG, I don't mind at all now I'm back from holiday with nowhere to go, but very much sounds like you could do without the disruption!0

weather forecast has predicted snow in Wales. I hear it is quite deep in North Wales - nothing here. It also forecast snow for Scotland tomorrow but said it should be warmer on Sunday so dont panic, they think it is not staying! Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, I will try again tomorrow -- Mary Anne Radmacher0

Well its not deep in my part of North Wales in fact we haven't had any off to the sunnySouth Wales tomorrow to take OS back to Uni or at least to see how he gets on as his leg is still in a brace and a splint so not quite sure how its going to work as he has been making full use of the staff of mom and dad's hotel since he has been home

Think it is thawing again, but glad I wasn't planning to go out.
Hope you had a good night's sleep MG.0 -
Had a GREAT nights sleep ...................... brilliant isn't it, the feeling when you get to be back in your own bed?
LIDL has a half price offer on stewing steak today - so I may brave the 3" of snow with the buggy and DS2 to get that, but apart from that .................................... well I've had lots of thinking time whilst Mum has been ill (really pulled a lot of stuff into perspective) - so pulled out the 2011 plan and will be spending some time getting my head clear.
Mrs B pointed out that my "original" goal was to get back to work in the new Year ........................ well, although I haven't earned anything in the last 6 weeks I am ahead of my original goal and am already down the road of creating a business that works for the family.
Next little hurdle is catering for DS1 going part-time this term. He will still be at the school Monday to Friday from 9 am - 12.30pm. This means he will still cover the "3 hour work period" outlined in the Montessori currriculum.
Hopefully this means most of the "academic" stuff is taken care of. What they can't provision is the "peer group" and social side of his education. So here's a rough plan ................ and if anyone in education or who has some experience of homeschooling wants to chip in I would really appreciate it.
Every day he does at least a chapter of a novel and practices his violin, chanter and piano.
Mon PM Suzuki violin, Gardening hour, Scouts,
Tues PM Craft afternoon, Golf with Grandad and older men
Wed PM Garden hour, KS2 Maths, English and Science workbooks, Chanter and Band Practice
Thur PM Mind Mapping, French, Library visit
Frid PM Swimming, Writing Studio with 2 pals used to be at his school and they are writing little books together)
Sat AM Golf Lessons with peers, practice with Grandad
SAt PM Garden Hour, "Bread Project", Mindmap book reports
Sun AM Practical Life, Garden Hour, Cooking Practice for Grandparents coming for Dinner.
What do you think? Is there anything else I should look at including this term? (going to run this up until Easter BTW)

One of the benefits of home ed for me was that there was the freedom for children to explore in depth things they were really interested in, at the moment the schedule has no time for elements like that, i.e. if they're interested in something specific in science my 2 would follow it through in depth to whatever depth they wanted to go to. So maybe incorporating a couple of afternoons for special interests etc.. There's also no 'flopping' time scheduled, other than ? 'Practical Life' on Sunday.
It could be worth contacting local EO groups, as with only part-time schooling, they might let you join in on their activities if they have any, also it would widen the network of local contacts.
I was in the UK, but sons were able to audition and join the local county music groups despite not being in the schools, so it could be worth investigating what county type groups might be OK to join.
With home ed there's the full range from hippy type non-conformists to the crammers and every combination in between, so all I can say is what was good for me.0 -
I agree with se999 there didn't seem much time for himself but I don't have any experience of home ed.
Glad you're feeling on top of everything MG and fingers cross they locate whats wrong with your Mum soon.
Hope all the poorlies are feeling better xx2020 Mortgage-Free Wannabes #20 £1495.03/£2760 OP0
