Do you put the heater on in the car?

Fuel was more expensive in 2008 than it is now. 116.9p/L for unleaded here at the moment, it was at least 10p more back then.0

Yes, I put the heaters on. Otherwise it's flippin' cold.
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

The extra fuel used will be so little you will not notice so I say just make sure Tyres are at correct pressure, car is properly serviced and drive economical if you want to use as little fuel as poss.
However cars have electric cooling fans for the engine, so running the heater will delay it coming on.....swings and roundabouts. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
It was indeed Jan 08 104.3 Jun 08 118.2 July 08 119.5 Dec 08 89.5 AA average fuel cost!
It may have blipped for a month or 2 but it's £1.20-£1.25 on average at the moment; and I travel around the country every week - the cheapest I've found is £1.17 at the moment. If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -
115.9p up the road from here.Sambucus_Nigra wrote: »It may have blipped for a month or 2 but it's £1.20-£1.25 on average at the moment; and I travel around the country every week - the cheapest I've found is £1.17 at the moment.
As for the OP, if it's cold then turn the heater on. The difference in fuel cost will be minimal and you're probably a hell of a lot less likely to crash when your not shivering at the steering wheel.
If you want to save on fuel, empty the junk out of the boot, make sure your tyres are in good health and maintain a steady 56mph when you're driving on a major road and the speed limit allows.0 -

Yes I agreed with you up there^^^

ROFL - my boot is my office as I am a gardener in schools.....thanks for the advice though.
Unfortunately, the amount of petrol you use up looking for cheap garages when you are out and about negates any savings.......If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -
That will settle the arguments I have been having with a family member, who is too mean to put the heater on so we sit shivering and she drives in gloves and thick scarf to keep warm (er). Daft if you ask me whats the point in having heat in the winter if you don't use it!johnnyroper wrote: »The fan motor running will put increased load on alternator and in turn engine so yes it will use more fuel with heater fan running much like it does having fan running with heat set to cold.
