With the soaring costs of fuel, is it saving on fuel if you don't put the heater on?

  • No !. Not unless you have an electric car. The A/C perhaps but in wet weather remember to switch it back on to stop inside of screen and windows misting.

The heat is a byproduct of the engine running, that's why you won't get heat till the engine is hot.;)

The fan motor running will put increased load on alternator and in turn engine so yes it will use more fuel with heater fan running much like it does having fan running with heat set to cold.
The extra fuel used will be so little you will not notice so I say just make sure Tyres are at correct pressure, car is properly serviced and drive economical if you want to use as little fuel as poss.
  • It will cost you more to repair your car when you hit something because you can't see through your misted up windows.

When its cold the heater goes on, same as at home, but with the added bonus of heated bum warmers in my car, a damn fine invention.

Climate control is permanently on in my car, I don't see the point in turning it off.

Fuel costs are hardly soaring, isn't petrol cheaper than it was a few years ago atm?

    No - it isn't.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

Don't remember them being higher then they are now. They did peak a couple of years ago when a couple of pillocks in USA decided it would be fun to push a barrel of oil as far as they could.
