Hi, this is the Daily Thread for today. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well

Morning bargainbird and all who follow
I too am awake at stupid o'clock for a Sunday. I slept very well so think I'm over my cold but God (or whoever!) decided to wake me with period pain instead, grrrr . It's still dark out so it's cuppa nad back to bed with a book for a bit.
I've got loads I need to get done today ready for going on holiday on Thursday. WM is on as I type. DW will go on later. I still need to unpack my new FP (will give it a whirl today I think), tidy and hoover everywhere
.
I also need to dye my hair, pop to shops for some clothes and stuff, write and post some birthday cards, look at ome uni work, print out bits for holiday and god knows what else :rotfl:
Have a good sunday all

I'm up!
Morning folks.
Didn't achieve too much yesterday but spent a very long time in the shower cleaning it out. Even though we spray stuff on the walls and glass each time they were in need of a good scrub, so I did it before getting dressed.
Have decided to buy a dishwasher.
Yesterday, for various reasons, I had a pile of dishes to wash, and it took 3 bowlfuls. I measured the last bowl and it held 11 litres of water, so 3 x 11 plus the rinsing water plus the running water to get it to hot (condensor boiler) is an awful lot of metered water. So did some research and a new dishwasher uses approx 11 - 13 litres of water, is a cold fill and is more energy efficient than hand washing.
I had a water board bloke come out the other day to show me the meter in the back lane and was totally astounded to find that we had used 660 gallons (3 cubic metres?) of water in less than 6 weeks.
Now I need to clear out one of the cupboards in the kitchen. Cos the units were made to measure the second one under the sink is only 50cm wide so can only take a slimline version. That's perfect as there's, at the most, two of us here with the odd visitor -not odd peculiar but odd as in occasional.
Clearing out one cupboard means clearing out and re-arranging almost every other cupboard, and moving the cutlery drawer. I did that bit last night so I can get used to the new position early on!
Same OS as yesterday. I took a huge piece of boiled ham out of the freezer and we shall feast on that, in various ways, for the next day or two. Plenty of soup to have too. Heating isn't on, am sitting with a lovely warm throw over my legs!
Happy Sunday to everyone, happy birthdays and good vibrations.0 -
Morning all
Thanks for the birthday wishes BB, the sausages & sausage rolls are cooked so are the choc chip cookies, the cheesecake is made, the traybake is cooked & will be iced soon. My kids are bringing sandwiches & scones with jam & cream with them.
I sat & watched Harry Potter & finished the green scarf yesterday & started a white one, I have 8 more to knit & then I may swap to the Sirdar 1 hour scarves, as my local wool shop has some of the wool in stock, buying Can can with added postage is proving expensive.
I did all the washing yesterday but dried it in the TD, I can't cope with wet washing & 11 guests!
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

I'm up too and quite possibly have the worst cold ever!! my throat is really raw and feels like it might stick together when i swallow if that makes sense.....its times like this tho i'm really grateful I dont smoke anymore!
DD seems a little better today so hopefully mine will pass in a few days too. Have some steak pieces to put in the slow cooker and some mince to braise so will get that done then I can crash out til the shops open at 1pm then I have some MSing to do unfortunately.
Anyway bbl I need a warm drink xClimbing back on the OS wagon after a short vacation to Recklessness

Ha BB if you think I got a lie in think again. 6.30am but I've been attending to every whim of my little darlings until now
Took Mia up to bed with us but she didn't sleep on the bed (shame I was looking forward to a snuggly warm body), actually not sure where she slept but never had a peep out of her. considering it her first day yesterday and she was fostered with a lady with no [STRIKE]foghorn-sounding[/STRIKE] adorable children she's settled in really well. Been using her litter tray, finally the scratching post and she came to me and H last night for fuss :T She is a really sweetie and very playful. Must try clipping her claws though, if I start young enough then hopefully she'll get used to it.
OS today will be to make DS some Twinks and some choc brownies as he doesn't like the cinannom traybake I made last night!
Tea will probably be chicken and veggies and roasties
Might take the kids out for a couple of hours as theyve not been anywhere this weekend.
Hester - Happy Birthday  Hope you have a wonderful day
Bargainbird - Love the link, hope the kids enjoyed the disco :rotfl:
Hugs, spoons and high fives all round. Have a good Sunday OS or not.
Edited to add
JC - hope your poorly throat is better soon. Better get your H to rub some Vicks on your chest

Morning peeps
i`ve been around since 4am, too lazy to post though
The younger houndie woke me so i`ve done a couple of loads of washing and drunk lots of cups of tea
Today i plan on sorting out a bit more paperwork, nipping to the cleaners as i keep forgetting to call and pick up some work bits and cooking a lovely scrummy roast pork dinner.DH is at work until about 3 so i`ll have it ready for then.
Hester - Happy Birthday :bdaycake: enjoy your day!
I love all the cat pix that were posted last night, all cuddly cuties
When i get round to it i`ll post a pic of my little black cat who isn`t little any longer :rotfl:
Have good days peeps.
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon

Happy birthday H/Hester I hope you get lots of pressies and get throughly spoiled
and good morning to the rest of you.brr its a nippy cold damp one this morning.Joints were giving me what for so i got up in the end as sometimes just moving around eases them a bit.but hey ho there's worse off than me.at least I can still get up in the morning .
Eldest DD said she might pop down for a coffee later so i have a bit of time for a bit of a tidy up first.I think I will blitz my bathroom today.I am trying to decide if I should emulsion the two bits of wall that isn't tiled.I have the paint ,just not much inclination at the mo.It could do with a bit of a freshen up but my bathroon is the room on the end of the central heating run and as such is always a bit chilly in there.I may have to codgitate that one for a bit.
NSD today as i have enough milk to last me today and possibly tomorrow .So Tuesday looks likely for my last few bits of shopping this month I am really pleased as I have managed to stay away from the shops for 18 days out of 21 this month which means I am not buying stuff unless its really needed.DD has managed to get me quite a few christmas pressies online and delivered so not too much trekking around the shops .This time of the year especially I try to stay away from crowds as I have a very low immune system after my chemo so I try not to go where there is any chance of catching a cold .Its worked for the past two winters anyway.
breakfast today will be porridge,OJ and a cuppa ,luch will be a ham wrp with salad and then this afternoon I will be off to DDs to see the boys, and probably play some board games with them, (Henry ) the nine year old loves chess and we have great battles. Then dinner at theirs and home by 9.00.p.m.
I hope everyone has a great Sunday and you all get to do what ever you are planning.
Take care and wrap up warm if your going out
Cheers JackieO xx0 -
Morning All,
Happy Birthday Hester :bdaycake: remember and leave the celebrating til the visitors have been
BB I pmsl at that, excellent find!!!
Bitsy glad to hear Mia settled OK last night, JC have a hug, and Gers, well done on the DW, having BTDT I soooo get where you are coming from!
Been awake since four as Coco needed a wee
OH has gone to work now, and I have the house to myself, the boys were up tooo late again last night watching a movie and having a midnight feast of toast and warm milk, so they should sleep another hour at least:)
Plan for the day is to make flapjacks and brownies, clean my smelly oven, and the bathroom, dye a blind for my bedroom - when we moved in here I got fabulous roman blinds for £4 each in B&Q but my room is black and white and purple and the blind is red, now I am into dyeing in a abig way I have decided its time it matched
Fixed my sisters laptop yesterday, so very pleased with myself about that, she has been using my nephews netbook and the screen must be about 7 inches, it's soooo tiny:rotfl: so no doubt I'll be in the good books with her.
Tonight we are off into Glasgow to see the lights being turned on. OH and I have been together 17 years, and have only missed it once - its a big thing for me, and I love it, we have lots of pictures of us, then with the boys as they've grown up. One year we had friends come with us, which was really special as by the time the following Christmas came they had emigrated to Oz. So Christmas starts tonight, for me, I'll try and post some pics at least on FB as it looks spectacular!
Have great days all, and be safe. Its three months since we heard from MSD
and even longer since SunnyGirl posted, I hope she is safe, and its just her new job that's kept her away. Hugs spoons and hi fives all round.

EDIT - meant to say to Flutterby there was a vegetarian Christmas thread floating around yesterday which had quite a few recipes on. I am not mad for nut roast and don't have one myself though! It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your window
