Had the insurance with dfs and was so glad I did. Had accidents happen twice and they came out within a week and had it looking good in no time. Have had 3 suites from them, no real problems.0

Are you being deliberately stupid?
The OP was unaware until the show that her suite had not been given the protection!
Then perhaps you are being just thick as the furniture does have protection get your facts right before you start throwing insults idiot !!!
If OP read the terms and conditions and found there was no mention of the furniture being sprayed as advised by the sales person then perhaps the complaint should of been taken up with the store concerned before hand.
DFS offer 2 types of protection and both cover the same cover the only difference between them is one gets fabricoated/scotchguarded and the other does not0 -

Ok.. rather than being stupid, i think you do not understand the situation.
The problem is that the OP has paid to have the protection sprayed on. It turns out that furniture with leather parts CANNOT be sprayed. The problem is that DFS still take the money but do not tell the customer that it hasnt been sprayed.
The justification from DFS is that the item will be insured regardless. The complaint by the customers is that they werent paying for insurance, they were paying for the product to be sprayed, hence the insurance was missold.0 -

Just to add DFS sell a leather warranty (which their service guys deal with in house)The fabric warrantys are done by a outside company.so its very hard sometimes to know just what you have bought on leather/fabric hybrid sofas. Some of the furniture is sprayed as it leaves the factory, some furniture is sprayed at the store. The DFS staff get confussed,no wonder that customers do as well:(0 -

I do understand the situation, but what I dont understand is why these concerns were not raised to DFS before the watchdog programme.
There is no mis-sold product as the protection cover is there still....where its wrong is the sales person mis-informed the OP of how the protection is applied to the furniture as OP said the terms and conditions were read and no where does it state the the furniture was spray then why didn't the OP contact DFS.0 -
bigbulldog, standard terms and conditions are given for every suite/sofa sold from DFS when you agree to the stainguard. My friend bought an all fabric sofa 3 months before I bought ours for a flat which he lets. This is all fabric. The insurance company confirm this sofa will have been sprayed, He also called them to query this after the programme.
Therefore identical paperwork is issued whether or not the treatment has been applied, ie his has been sprayed but no mention is made on the paperwork.
I have spoken to Trading standards who say if i can prove i was told this work would be done then i have a case regardless of what is written on the paperwork. As they are clearly still saying this to every customer, i dont think this should be too difficult.
So the answer to why didnt i contact them before is obviously because i assumed they were being honest about the product they were selling and have only now realized they were not.0 -
Just buy your sofas from IKEA instead. Washable covers! And if you can't get the red wine out in the washing machine, you buy a new set of covers - sorted.0

lor6126, i am in the same boat as you. In 2008 my partner, myself and my five year old went to dfs and bought a fabric/leather sofa, the salesman told me about fabricoate, 'if you spill anything on your sofa, you just blot it with a towel, if it doesnt come out ring us and well be right round to fix it, if we cant get rid of the satin well replace it, handy when youve got kids'. 'so it will get anything out? milk, tea, coffee, chocolate, ketchup, curry' i remember asking to which he replied yes everything. i bought the fabricoate insurance at £126. now after watching watchdog find out i have paid for fabricaote and i havent got it. yes i admit i didnt read the small print, but i trusted the salesman! it states in the exclusions that it excludes stains caused by everyday use and soiling. does this mean if i have a cup of tea while sat on my sofa and i spill it, its not covered, thats an everyday thing in my house? yes according to watchdog it does, so the salesman mislead me. if weve got a case to get out money back for a policy that isnt worth the paper its written on im in, tell me what we can do!0
