dfs bbc watchdog

hi, anyone see this last night? I bought a sofa a year ago and paid an extra £150 to have this sprayed with stainguard. According to watchdog last night, sofas with leather parts,ie arms like mine, cannot be sprayed.
So i think this was mis sold to us. We basically paid for an insurance policy.
Anyone else in same positition, id like to take this further and cancel this insurance, but not sure how to go about it.

It also said there is 2 insurance policies 1 comes with a spray and 1 dont. Your still going to get the insurance if anything goes wrong, Its just a way to get a consumer to buy the insurance in the first place by tempting them with extra products.

Although I would laugh if you cancelled your policy and something happend your sofa.

But didnt they also (basically) say that the insurance isn't worth the paper it is written on, due to the endless numbers of exclusions?

I remember going to DFS after seeing an add on TV they were selling 3 piece leather suites for £500 and it was something I needed for my new flat so I went along to buy I picked the colour I wanted and was told it was £650 I said hang on thats more than it said on the TV he said the one on the TV was a different colour but even so I did like it so I said ok I will buy it he then asked me what feet I would like on it I said what do you mean he then showed me a choice of feet all at different prices the best ones were an extra £120 he then said I would need the spray to stop the leather cracking £30 so it went from £500 to £800 this was about 8 years ago needless to say I left the store with my money I have also noted the only time they haven't got a sale is Christmas day thats only because the are closed they must think people are mugs.

Has your sofa actually been sprayed with something or not?

  • If you had paid to have it protected whether its been sprayed with scotchguard or not from what I understand you are still covered as that I was advised when I went to purchase a 3 piece suite and like all other insurance backed warranties there are always exclusions.

I was always taught to respect your furniture and it should last for years, ours is 10 years plus for our DFS sofa and the advise I was given was first rate and would not hesitate to buy from them again.:)

    +1

    also........

It makes me so annoyed that people jump on the band wagon that I was mis-sold and now I want my money back even though these people have had every opportunity to read all the terms and conditions and have never bothered too.

Lots of these insurance backed policys have been mis-sold to customers over the years,I have heard some fantastic claims by salesmen .I used to work for them.

Welll the insurance wasn't compulsory it was all down to temptation due to the extra product.

But cancelling because because watchdog pointed out the small print rather than OP reading them selfs before purchasing it is abit to far.

The trouble is that small print is there deliberately to deceive people and most people don't read it. Is it acceptable for sales people to lie, most people here feel that it is.

Personally I never buy any extended warranties they are a waste of money. Some people like them, and that keeps the price of goods down for people like me.
