  • brilliant website (as far as ease of use and design go). doesn't take account of any potential discount codes you may have or the fact that delivery may be free over a certain amount (like with Ocado if you spend over £75). I think these could be incorporated into the site somewhere..

    Still interesting and useful...

    Thanks

First thing is that this site breaks the no.1 rule of internet shopping - never give your password to another website. I dont feel comfortable entering my Ocado or Tesco login details into some unrelated website. How do I know it wont get misused? They could access my credit card details saved on the actual grocery sites. I've used other price comparison websites (like https://www.uk.shopping.com and https://www.bookbrain.com) which are great at comparing products and directing you to the cheapest seller, but none of them make you disclose confidential details.

to be fair though you only need to disclose this information if you want to use the 'Favourites' facility. It isn't mandatory which is what you are kind of suggesting. If you use this site to actually do the shop (as in proceed to the Checkout) then I guess you need to enter the details too but I only use it to compare.

I agree with a lot of your points and share your concern about entering details for other websites though but then I never register credit card details permanently with any site (bit of a pain typing it in every time mind you !!!).
  • For me, asda was cheapest, then sainsburys by about £1, then tesco about £15 deerer and the ocado about £115.00 MORE EXPENSIVE! I know where i won't be shopping...
Wow! That's a mighty big saving! Are you sure it would have been as much as £115? How much would you have needed to spend?
  • Sounds like there was a glitch on the website when jakejakejake did his price comparison. That price difference cant possibly be correct. Makes me question whether the MySupermarket site is even doing what it claims to do. I followed paullj's advice (no.53) and did a quick compare on price of 10 items - it showed Ocado as the cheapest and then Sainsbury. Then i went to add an 11th item (some tea). The price comparison then showed Sainsbury as the cheapest of the 4 supermarkets. Sounds rational, but then I noticed that the tea was actually out of stock at Sainsbury, so it was comparing the price of 11 items at the other supermarkets to 10 at Saisnbury! Mathematically true, but not really helpful.
  • Anything that keeps the supermarkets on their toes has to be good.

We only have Tesco near us delivering from the web, but it still lets you know who the cheapest chain is for what you want to buy.

    Great site
Cheap is good but free is best!

I've been looking for this for ages! :j It's a fab site, glad I found it.

The only tiny thing that I found didn't quite work was the fact that the site suggests smaller products in order to save money i.e. 50g product instead of 100g product, most of the time I buy the largest size to save money.

But this is only a tiny thing, the rest of the site is absolutely fab and JUST what I've been looking for, thank you!!! Well done on setting this thing up, it must have been a gigantic project!

The problem is that you can only compare the prices on generic items and the online supermarkets are working hard to offer their own exclusives. The Ocado online supermarket have just announced that they are developing the own range of economy products (of course Ocado get all their items from Waitrose at the moment). There don't seem to be many from what I can tell but it's a clear statement of intent. Add to that their range of fresh bread (you'd think they all do fresh bread but of course there is fresh "made today" and fresh "sold by it's sell by date"). The decision is not going to be as simple as price in future.
  • Mysupermarket is a great site and saves me on average £10 per weekly shop... I have found myself alternating between Tesco and ASDA to get the best price!

In Martin's original post, the section 'How does it make money?' stated
".. additional bolt-on features that need paying for are planned. For example an ability to search goods via dietary or health requirements - and to break down and switch products due to your predefined health requirements."

Does anyone have any information on these additional features? Are they still planned?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Adam,

In answer to your question regarding additional features on mySupermarket which will allow you to search for items visa dietary or health requirements - these features are definitely still planned and we are currently working on them. When they launch, targeted healthy food shopping with mySupermarket will become even easier.

We are glad you are enjoying your experience with mySupermarket so far.

    Regards,
    The mySupermarket team.
