Thanks PWPS and Chev for the supporting comments.

Been a very OS weekend. Been sorting out the kids room and have a huge IKEA bag of clothes to ebay. We went to watch DS2 play rugby this morning and they won both of their matches:T:T

Popped in Morrisons on the way home and hit 'bargain time', spent £30 and amongst other things got 12x200g blocks of mature half fat cheddar (we are trying to loose weight), 500g lean steak mince, 800g braising steak, 4 salmon fillets, 6 smoked mackeral fillets 16 large sausages and 50 small sausages (great for toad in the hole) most of which has gone straight in the freezer and will make stew, chilli etc for this weeks meal plan:j

By the time we got home the gammon joint (reduced to £1.99) I had put in the SC was cooked 6 of us had it with mixed roasted veg and parsley sauce - yum! The stock and remaining ham went in a big pot of pea and ham soup for tea with 6 demi bagettes bought for 9p in total! DS2 liked it so much he wanted to know how to make it, the good news for him is that I have 2 more gammon joints in the freezer.
We had bread and butter pudding for afters made with whoopsied eggs (29p for 6) and hot cross buns. In the oven at the mo are 2 spiced apple cakes made with more of the eggs and apples from our tree which I had stewed and frozen - they smell loverly!

DH has been working all weekend and was really pleased when he worked out how much he had earnt towards the debt busting. That was the only good thing about all of the disasters at the start of the year, we managed to find the money to pay for it all between us:D.

Hope you have all had a good weekend.

  • Well done getting all those bargains.
  • Hi All

I'm at work tonight, one of those days where I have an hour between jobs:(. Trying to be organised and put a beef stew in the SC this morning so that is ready for the family. Also did a load of washing this morning and mopped the floors before work as I feel much happier if my floors are lovely and clean. I have been a bit naughty and treated myself to some whoopsied salmon and ready made mash which will do me tonight and also lunch at work tomorrow;). Gotta have a few treats when I'm working all these hours, will just want to collapse in bed by the time I get home!

I had a quick count of my 'slummy jar' at the weekend, there's about £40 in there already :j which would probably have just got wasted on nothing in the past, can't wait to see how much there is by Xmas! I also have £12 in £2 coins and £10 in the Xmas savings at work, I like have several 'pots' as if things get really tight and I break into one of them I will still have the other 2 for Xmas! Probably seems daft but I find that once I break into savings they get spent and never replaced so this works for me!

What is everyone up to this evening? Make me envious whilst I'm at work!

  • Hi everyone,

Just gonna quickly post and run as I am flying between jobs this afternoon.

Chilli in slow cooker to feed the masses. Extra income earned this week should be over £30 so gonna tuck that away for hols. Grocery spend this week so far is only £30, I aim for about £60 for the 5 of us and the hound!

BUT THE BEST NEWS IS........................................... After DH finally pulling his head out of his rear he has excelled himself, signed up to Experion and checked his credit rating which was far better than expected and has managed to get a 0% cc for 17 months (thanks Martin:money:!) and transferred his cc £1000 and my smaller cc to it and will repay it this year. It is such a relief as 'my' debt is really joint expenditure and I have felt as though I have had to bear the burden of it alone. I was so touched when I knew what he had done as it proved to me that he was really on board.

DH has also been telling people all my money saving ways, bulking out mince, putting very dilute handwash into foam pump bottles etc he seems quite proud of what I do to stretch the budget and make sure that we all have what we need and eat well. Bless him, I knew there was a reason I married him .

Right, back to work I go.

    Have a great evening everyone

  • Bless him, he sounds really sweet and thats brilliant that he got the 0% offer on the credit card.
  • Hi All

PWPS - Yes he is very sweet, we are really lucky we found each other, 2nd time round for both of us.

Well, 'day off' today so did my little home help job this morning, think she wants the company as much as anything as we spend a good deal of time chatting. Bit extra income for the holiday fund (nothing flash - just camping with friends). Then came home and blitzed the lounge, pulled out all the furniture etc and cleaned with my stardrops, white vinegar and zoflora, smells lovely and fresh. Hubby was home mid afternoon so we had some hm soup for lunch before it was time to get the kids.

Tea tonight is a treat for the kids, whoopsied pizzas and chips, not often they get anything ready made. Going to prepare tomorrow's dinner as well, enchilladas made with the rest of last night's chilli and 5p wraps (whoopsied of course). Got a friend and her son coming round tomorrow so better to get it done tonight.

Money wise my cashflow is a problem as I keep having to chase my boss for my pay, always about 2/3 weeks behind so I borrow from other pots and then struggle to put it back. I am being really careful with my spending so that I catch-up from all of the unexpected bills at the start of the year and when my pay catches up I should be able to save a little, especially as I have 1 less cc to worry about.

Hope you all a good evening, take care

    Hi All

Having a nice weekend, wasn't the weather fab yesterday? It was great to get some towels etc outside to dry, did my first batch of washing with white vinegar as the softener, seems to have worked well and the towels are lovely and soft and smell really fresh. Will stick to fabric conditioner for clothes though.

Had friends around last night, they are having a tough time and so needed some emotional support. Found the last of the Xmas nibbles in the freezer so we had those with our wine - lovely.

Wet weather back today so going to do more decluttering and some baking. Cooking Delia's stuffed roast lamb breast for dinner, never cooked it before so fingers crossed.

Saving hard and tring to keep costs down as much as possible, should be able to pay off a bit more on the cc this month.

    Have a good day

  • Mmmmm, roast stuffed breast of lamb was lovely, will deffo do that again when I find some more whoopsied lamb breast. Choc brioche bread and butter pudding for afters, great diet food lol!!!!

Also cooked 2 chocolate and blueberry loaf cakes and sliced and wrapped the kids cake ready for thier lunch boxes this week, will save time in the mornings.

Loads of washing done, all up straight for now, cleaned out the fridge whilst I was in the kitchen cooking, can now go and enjoy a leisurely soak in the bath!! Also did the meal plan for the next 2 weeks whilst cooking and had a long overdue phone call with my lil sis, multi tasking at it's best!:rotfl:
