  • Similar issue here in the fog, silver cars (seem to be the most popular colour these days) not trning their lights on and seem to materialise out of the fog.

300 - 100 - 50 yards I think were getting old Be careful we will have the metric police after us. I gave directions to a young lad the other day and said turn left in about a hundred yards! He asked what a yard was?:o
  • A yard is what they have in Yorkshire for keeping their outside toilets in.

Sod the Frogs, sorry Seb, a yard is a metre but a metre is foreign:D

I once said to a girl at the garden centre, "it's 10 bob". She said "is that the same as 10p?" Of course it was, :o

    100 yards = 84 meters

Going more off topic on this, but many RoadChef services have replaced their Wimpys with "The Burger Company" who now offer a "4Oz burger" and an "8Oz burger". When you ask them for a quarter pounder they don't know what the hell you are talking about. I could understand that when the person serving me was a spotty 17yr old, but the last time it was a woman who looked about 50.

For the youngsters, 16Oz = 1lb, therefore a quarter of a pound is 4 ounces. Christ I'm only 31, wasn't taught pounds and ounces in school and I still know this stuff. I couldn't tell you how many chains in a furlong or any of the other really stupid imperial measurements but the basic ones that are still in regular use really ought to be common knowledge.
