I'd say if I've gone past 15, and you just the 1, it's incredibly unlikely I would have seen! Also I don't have to 'beat' you!

My favourite game is 'sit there til they reverse'.

I've actually got out, locked it up, gone to the shop for a paper, and come back to read it. (to be fair, the shop was next to the car)
  • Same idiots who haven't the nous to use their indicators at junctions or roundabouts, take forever to overtake in top gear, and the female last weekend who could only travel at 40mph, on the open road, over the cross roads that were give way against her, and 40 through the narrow 30mph village just missing a Fourtrack when she went through the traffic calming at 40mph on the Fourtracks side of the road.
Bet she's never had an accident but seen or more likely heard dozens.

It's hell out there, and arn't we looking forward the salted damp roads that many drivers seem to think grips better than dry tarmac.
  • Why do people insist on driving forward onto their drives then reverse off them without even looking in both directions, only to be surprised when someone narrowly avoids a collision? Why are they normally women ;)?Why do they do this even when they have children in the back?

That one I can explain for you:mad:

Take my situation; Live just short of the top of a steep hill with a bend at the top. Double whites start 2 doors below me. Last bloke to live here told me he had a car written off as he reversed out of the road, so I know the dangers, but, when I pull up just past the drive in an attempt to reverse in the moron behind has stopped accross my drive and up my bumpers and the one behind him etc etc, or worse the whole lot will try to pass me over the white lines 25yds short of a blind bend:eek:. I've tried signalling left, putting hazards on stopping almost in the centre of the road all to no avail, they still don't get it and park up yer backside:mad:

PS I still think it's the same bloke, surely there aren't that many inconsiderate drivers out there ;);););););) ??
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
  • "when I'm doing 60+".
Possibly they thought you were keeping to the speed limit and travelling at 60-? :p

Too right. I currently live on a busy road and have to reverse my car out onto it.

I did try reversing onto the drive - the reversing isn't a problem - people driving up your backside or driving around you were.

I tried everything cyclonebri1 suggested, short of stopping early, getting out of the car and telling the car behind to leave some space!

They're are probably the same [STRIKE]morons[/STRIKE] people that bemoan me having to reverse out.

I hate the drivers who think because it's 'their' side of the road, and I'm overtaking parked cars, I've gone past 15, they've gone past one.... That I should reverse!

    IDIOTS!!!

There is a stretch of road near to us, and a lot of drivers think that once they have overtaken one car, they can stay on that side of the road and overtake others, even though there may be space for them to pull in and give way.
I decided to call someone's bluff one morning, and reduced my speed just as I was level with the car which she was overtaking. She had a fifty yard space between cars, which in her little World allowed her to stay on my side of the road.
Her comment to me after she had reversed and wound down the window was:
"You could see that I was coming through, you selfish w****r".
Many people do not want to slow down, or give way when they should, because they cannot be bothered. The same people cannot be bothered to indicate.

I don't know the road and you may have already tried this, in which case apologies in advance, but maybe a small modification to how you line up to reverse could help.

The standard way to reverse into a drive is to pull over and stop just after your driveway, then put it in reverse, full lock left and start reversing in.

Instead, try moving closer to the curb, steer right and stop at a 45 degree angle across the lane with your rear left corner aligned with your gatepost, then put it in reverse, full lock left and start reversing in.

This almost completely avoids the need to move backwards down the road, so unless the person is touching your bumper corner you can make it. The downside is on narrow roads you expose yourself to oncoming traffic and if it's really busy may need to adjust the angle or wait for a gap and then do the manoeuvre quickly.

I'm in work, so had to knock up this diagram in MS Paint

    Reverse.png

FWIW, I find it easier to get into driveways and car park spaces this way anyway, and it has the added advantage of stopping someone from driving in forwards while you switch to reverse gear.

So why?, on a sunny monday afternoon when I'm doing 60+ down a lonely country road does some "motorist" decide it's ok to pull out of a side road when I'm 50 yds away?

Because you were driving too fast. The motorist made the mistake of assuming you were driving within the law.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

Thanks Lum! Like the diagram :p

Unfortunately it is a narrow road and very busy so that pretty much rules that out!

Thankfully I am moving out in a week to a quiet residential area, no more having to fight my way onto the road.

I'm currently reversing out of one of the houses to the right of the 'A' (see the 3 red(?) cars)
