You could possibly still apply the technique I suggested if you make creative use of the pavement and maybe a 30 rather than 45 degree angle. Is it a dropped curb at all?0

^^ And indicate well in advance, slow right down.... It should be obvious what your going to do?“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

You overestimate the average driver.
The beauty of the trick I describe is you end up blocking the area you need to reverse rather than rely on the person behind to keep well back.
It will still confuse the hell out of people, but that's a good thing in a way as they will be a bit more cautious. With the standard reversing technique people "know" that you are just parking at the side of the road and act accordingly.0 -

Because you were driving too fast. The motorist made the mistake of assuming you were driving within the law.
Can I assume then 61 is too fast to be comprehended by the average motorist on a country road
???
"You" made mistake assuming you know the answer, go to the bottom of the class
Maybe your view of the situation would be different so go ahead, would you pull out or wait??
I think this post was aimed in your direction:T:T:T:T:T
Pull out because he's obviously driviving toooo fast, he csn hit me if he wan.... oooorrrr:oI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -

If it was a country road it is within the law at 60mph unless sign posted differently!0 -
"60+" could mean anything. Many country roads these days have a 50 mph limit on them anyway, and even if that particular country road was 60 mph, it is meant to be a limit, not a target.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0
-
The limit rarely matches up with the maximum safe speed. On many roads this speed is faster in which case driving to the limit is perfectly acceptable.
If Labour ever got their plans to set the limit to the 50th percentile pushed through nationally then the limit would become a target. I believe that many former NSL roads in the home counties did get hit by this plan, however.0 -
Agreed you should of course drive safely but the speed limit is 60mph unless otherwise signed. So it is within the law. It does not excuse inappropriate speed, or inappropriate driving of course. There are indeed many country roads that I would not dream of travelling at 60mph even if it was within the law.0

Take my situation; Live just short of the top of a steep hill with a bend at the top. Double whites start 2 doors below me. Last bloke to live here told me he had a car written off as he reversed out of the road, so I know the dangers, but, when I pull up just past the drive in an attempt to reverse in the moron behind has stopped accross my drive and up my bumpers and the one behind him etc etc, or worse the whole lot will try to pass me over the white lines 25yds short of a blind bend:eek:. I've tried signalling left, putting hazards on stopping almost in the centre of the road all to no avail, they still don't get it and park up yer backside:mad:
PS I still think it's the same bloke, surely there aren't that many inconsiderate drivers out there
;););););) ??
I have had to reverse into some ridiculous places(eg up a steep unmarked lane with no turning place on it between 2 stone walls barely wide enough on a NSL road 75 yards from the brow of a hill/bend) and know what you mean about people overtaking you when you do it.People are incredibly stupid/selfish/dangerous when they overtake or dirve too close behind people in the middle of manoeuvers like this.
I generally indicate early and start braking earlier than normal so they know I am about to do something they may not expect and then if there's oncoming traffic I wait. When its clear I'll swing over the road so both lanes are blocked and then reverse in.At least this way people cannot overtake you which makes it take longer and keeps you in the danger zone longer.I still get the odd idiot trying to either over or undertake whilst doing it though but its still safer than the alternative of reversing into a road blind.
I've even had a complete numpty undertake me on the pavement before whilst I was in the middle of reversing into a cul de sac with no turning space. That was at 6am on a quiet road.0 -
Too right. I currently live on a busy road and have to reverse my car out onto it.
I did try reversing onto the drive - the reversing isn't a problem - people driving up your backside or driving around you were.
I tried everything cyclonebri1 suggested, short of stopping early, getting out of the car and telling the car behind to leave some space!
They're are probably the same [STRIKE]morons[/STRIKE] people that bemoan me having to reverse out.
You are basicly being bullied into not reversing into your drive which is by far the safer thing to do.It is far more dangerous to reverse out as your visibility is reduced and people aren't expecting it and are then in a position to passively stop you getting out just by driving as normal.Read up on what the highway code advises on general reversing and take note of what it says on doing so onto a main road. You risk driving without due care if you have a collision which would be almost certainly be your fault.
I have no problem waiting for someone to reverse into a sideroad/drive/whatever but no time at all for anyone doing the opposite.0
