wendy, it really depends what youve got there.
I have got loads of "stuff" but its all tidied away :A and I really know where EVERYTHING is. Oh on the other hand isnt quite as organised as me :A and can never find anything, when its cos hes left it on the floor or something and Ive filed it in its place :A
My mates a crafter. She makes clothes, she knits and she has stuff EVERYWHERE, zips down the side of the sofa, you name it! - would it be possible to get a set of shelves with some nice baskets & boxes on to stash all the things. I dont tihnk its a problem, having a lot of stuff, just more how its arrangedhence if you are looking for something you find it in flying speed
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -

I know
Think it must have been there for some time (as you see, don't clean my car very often).

wendym wrote:I have now reached the point I always get to, of being really dissatisfied with my house, which is ridiculous, but I really want shelves and cupboards and a utility room.
But then from my stash of presents in my still not completely transformed boxroom I have just given my little granddaughter nicer birthday presents than her sickeningly rich parents* did, and I have found the fabric and pattern for a new jacket, and paid off this month's credit card (0%, of course, but it's good to get on top of it sometimes), and sent a card from another stash to a neighbour. I think I need a kinder word than hoarding, as my system keeps us afloat. So am I allowed some 'stuff that isn't just stuff'?
* That really doesn't make me sound very nice, does it? Hey ho!
Wendy, hi!
I was like you, with stuff everywhere. I've hoarded for years/for ever  , but am slowly getting my home back. I can now see the things I really love, as I've got rid of the excess stuff. Some of my solutions:
I was then lucky enough to inherit a lovely old chest of drawers, so sewing stuff goes into the deep bottom drawer.
I bought some lovely boxes from Au Naturel. They're cardboard, with lids, and come in lots of designs. I've made labels for one end of them, and stack them (about 10 high atm! ). I can then see what I have there.
Small plastic boxes of differing sizes for small stuff. Also Ikea have some inexpensive wooden drawer boxes. I made DD a christmas present a few years ago, painted each drawer a different colour (using leftover paint) and a pack of small silver kn0bs as handles. Looks great (gets lots of admiration) and cost me £4!
I got a lovely wooden cabinet from Freecycle. Great for sewing "in progress". I also find giving away on Freecycle easier than giving to charity shops, too.
I give myself a certain amount of storage, and when it's full, I can't keep more.
Just ask if you need more details. Welcome aboard!

Apart from Christmas stuff under beds, and some stacked Ikea boxes, the rest of my house is stuff-free, honest.
I think I shall have to try to be reasonably relaxed about my little work room, which isn't a tip, and I can find things. I have a set of drawers that a neighbour was binning, and yet more Ikea boxes, and it's pretty much under control. The only things that aren't useful are things I'm sentimental about, mainly presents from my younger daughter when she was broke.
Sometimes I just long for cupboard doors, and nothing at all visible. And the kind of saintly perfection exhibited by you and lynzpower, of course.0 -
ahaha Im no saint. Im hoping to god no one opens the spare bedroom wardrobe
everything will come tumbling out Ive managed to get in pretty much our whole CD collection, all my paperwork, clothees, the Xmas box, all that "stuff" we need but just cannot display.
My parents have fitted cupbards which are great in nearly all the rooms at thier place - but then they have a LOT of stuff. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

Do you remember Monica's cupboard in Friends?
O/T, but might entertain you:
We treated ourselves to a holiday in the north of France. On day 3 , husband announced he'd lost his wallet. We asked in the hotel, who said we absolutely HAD to report the loss of the driving licence to the police, or risk a massive on the spot fine, and possibly court summons!
So we spent a morning in the police station, wher no-one had a word of English, but I got by, then spent time and money on the phone to cancel credit cards. On the way back up to Calais we retraced all our steps, just in case. We also went to the filling station we'd used in Kent.
About 5 minutes from home, he asked in a rather casual way whether 'we'd' all find it jolly amusing if he found he hadn't taken it with him!
And sure enough, it had never left home.
After years of living with him losing anything and everything, this was a new twist!0 -
Just crawled out of kitchen - all done except floor:D , not gone too OTT like emptying out cupboards etc just made sure they were tidy, sides clean etc.
Can't believe how much I've done:shocked: . I'm about 1/2 way through list so hoping tomorrow will be quiet workwise and I can get it finished, then Saturday will be tidy office/catch up with work and get out drill to sort out dd's drawers.
Sunday AM shopping a la Tesco, Sunday PM pacing clean house awaiting return of DD's.
Gosh can't believe I've done this - right next week watch out Flylady I'll be heading your way (if I've not collapsed from exhaustion!)
Off now for a hot bath and an early night!0 -
I am sure you will be pleased to know I did manage to clean the car without any great hazard. I even took it to wash and vax at the garage , sadly the machine was broken. The cord wont reach at home so will have to try again but ds2 screams the whole time if you go with him in the car.
I also 'cleaned' the fireplace - eg we had the first fire of the year using the pine cones that go into it for the summer. Lovely!
Today I am going to attack the toy collection, witha view to doing a bit more freecycling before we move.
TNG - duplicate books? I have several copies of various collectable books, keep meaning to put them on Amazon or e-bay but I so hate selling them. You can imagine me in a second hand bookshop hiding the things customers wanted as I hadn't finished coveting them yet - first edition Bronte was my favourite......'If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need' Marcus Tullius Cicero0 -
