And, out of interest, where you now working (or prefer not to disclose)? Either way, well done (more so if it's a permanent role (which I assume it is if you're looking at renting a car park space. And, if not, still well done! :D).

Hi there! We’ve had to remove your signature. It was so good we removed it because we cannot think of one so good as you had and need to protect others from seeing such a great signature.

    Fozzeh, Li0nhead-THANKS!

Fozzeh-are you from Leeds? A mate who likes maps (!!!) says about a 5 min walk (450m?). Do you think its a good location??? oh...by the way its for the whole month so yes-available at weekends.

Li0nhead-yes the £114 a month for the card IS cheaper than I've budgeted for (I have a small diesel car & budgeted on around £190 a month for car parking & diesel)....but for me the extra £70 odd a month is worth the drive (I think!) but I'll certainly look at some of the 'satelite' departure points where free car parking is guaranteed-such as slaithwaite/lockwood....

http://leeds.gumtree.com/leeds/08/68261908.html is another one-only £5 a month more & underground (bear in mind I could be 'frost scraping'-unless i buy a car cover!-until April! Underground would avoid that!). Any thoughts on this guys/gals?

Thanks for the congrats Fozzeh-PM'D you the company. yes-full time-NOT contract (as so many things are nowadays) & a decent wage, & good prospects. been interviewed 3 times now (this is my 3rd application)-heavy/heavy demand for the job so well chuffed!

I know the route to the rose park (bowl??) car-park like the back of my hand-turning right opposite dry dock pub (after uni bar area & lgi). I'm not too familiar with the one-way system the other side-does the above & my original link keep me in this immediate area? I'll do some dry runs next week I think!

I used to work in Leeds (moved to Manchester region now) for 4 years so know the centre fairly well.

The underground one could be ok too. Just have to watch out for if it is gated; will you get a key for it? If not and it faulters/someone locks it...you're snookered.

If you get a third interview and don't get a job, you have to worry! Good to hear some good news about jobs I can comment on without putting my feet in it! The 1 way system in Leeds is mental...but you'll get used to it. Try not to go down bus lanes as they are mostly CCTV'd (especially the one down Park Row).

Thanks Fozzeh....will check out the underground one re: gates! In all honesty 1 fluffed my 1st (2nd) interview-as its all 'competancy' based-a style of interviewing I (at the time) was completely not used to-so i couldn't give the correct answers. "2nd time was for a slightly different role-got to the initial (group) interview stage-& no further, 3rd time was for original job title & here I am! My sister was a great help (she's worked in HR)-& helped me improve my C.V. to show the skills relavent to the job.

    Thanks for your help!

I have always said that whoever designed the 1 way system in Leeds was a cyclist on LSD.
  • Thanks again guys/gals for all your help! Waiting to hear back re: exact subsidised car parking arrangements from my new employer. IF i decide to book a private car park i feel an underground one would be better-no scraping the ice at 8pm!

After endless looking/finding free parking in Huddersfield (!)...I've arranged a car park on Lovell Court road-5 mins from Merrion!! Done a trial run (!) & the good thing is it's straight off the A58 ring road-& bearing in mind I'm travelling off peak the journry time is 35 minutes (not bad considering I'm 4 miles or so west of Huddersfield!!). It's a secure space-cc tv/caretaker & as far as i know a lockable 'bollard' & I'm pretty sure its underground/sheltered (but not too fussed if not). Am meeting them on Monday am (my 1st day at work!!!) to pay to pay deposit (1 months rental) + 1 months rent upfront-£80 & available 24/7-not bad for Leeds. Am getting an official receipt so lets hope I've not been conned (have renters mobile & bank a/c details so should be fine!)!

Problem with bus+train is YES it's a bit cheaper but for example when I finish at 8pm I#d not be home realistically until 2140 as direct bus is later-meaning 12 minute walk in the dark-PLUS another 15 minute walk in the am & evening e/way for the 'free' parking.....just too much hassle!

I've looked at all the suggestions-even using the 'satelite' stations as 'park & rides' but the timings etc don't add up.

So....thanks all! Happy with the location & thankfull theres no 'city/one way/loop/stressfull driving to do!!!

So....from leaving office 40 minutes later I'm home-with 18 miles of it being easy 'sit at 55 in slow lane (!)' driving (quite relaxing/brain numbing!)...

Now I need to perfect my moneysaving driving style for my small diesel (old but fully serviced last month!)..thanks again all!
  • Hey guys....well £80 PCM secure parking paid for on Lovell pk road (50 metres from elmwood lane)....not locked but CCTV & caretaker etc + big clamping signs .....(!). Actually got a receipt showing my 'car parking space number' - a bit concerned as not done this before that it was dodgy(!)-but all seems fine! Location is FAB-dual carriageway driving (avoiding the infamous inner city 1 way loop) up until last 100 metres....35 minutes door to door (going at 60 on motorway!)....granted a slow run back wednesday am at 11-10 am (office shut weds+thursday)-but still only an hour-escaped the gridlock an hour later!!!!

Had to put an £80 deposit down but I gather that's standard-minimum rental is 6 months. Will be paying it monthly by direct debit/standing order. At least I don't have to rely on trains etc....which judging by the last week have been terrible!

My new job is going great-thanks all for all your help!
