:j Hey all...just got a job working in Leeds City Centre!!!!!!!!
I live 4 miles or so from Huddersfield city centre (near Milnsbridge) & am trying to work out the best way to get to my new job! The hours will be 12pm-8pm-Mon-Fri (but initially 11am-6pm for 4 weeks during training). The company i work for does have reduced rate car parking (£3-50 a day) near the Chinese supermarket (I think about 10 mins walk). The train is only 25 mins from Huddersfield but its a nightmare trying to find free parking in Huddersfield within 10 min walk from the train station. Then of course it's a good 10 minute walk to the Town Centre! Cheapest return fare I've seen is £5-20.
My car is an economical small diesel.....so I think parking up & driving in is the best hassle free chilled way to arrive at work-not stressing about finding car parking near Hudds train station...train being late...walking etc!!!!!
Or maybe something privately rented such as this http://leeds.gumtree.com/leeds/33/68399233.html ..........they do have spaces at the office reduced at £4-50 a day-but there's a waiting list for this.
Obviously it'd be nice if someone else does the same route in the Office & we can share....but obviously I won't know that until later!!
Does anyone have any suggestions....etc...on the best way to go about this??? Any ideas greatfully accepted....it's a fab job so my main concern (even if it means paying a tad more!) is arriving fresh for work & getting home as fast as poss...any help would be great!!!!!

Find a residential street park up and walk the remaining distance = keep fit, arrive at work fully awake and save £££.
This exactly what I do and it saves me over £80 a month, I just have a 12 minute walk to walk.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Cycle - 4 miles will take 20mins absolutely tops, which is probably quicker than driving and parking then walking in anyway. Short trips like that aren't good for diesels as they will barely get a chance to get warm.
As an added bonus, you'll also get the chance to outrage a load of car drivers while you're at it :rotfl:0 -
Hey guys-thanks for the suggestions! Can't afford to buy a bike I'm afraid......frothey appreciate what you say about diesals but its actually 25 miles e/way so nto too bad for the car..!0

Cycling that route wouldn't be viable, too many hills and very busy roads.
Try near the Met University, or on the road out towards sheepscar, you should be able to find some free on street parking, dont envy you tackling the 62 twice a day though.0 -

Good luck near the Met: Leeds town centre and the unis are a nightmare for parking.
There's a car park tucked away behind the West Yorkshire Playhouse. It might be worth having a little luck round there. Please call me 'Pickle'

Hi guys....again cheers for the replies! The M62 certainly ain't too bad after 10am & certainly after 6pm (for the training) & 8pm (when my normal hours start).....any thoughts on the private car park route? The link is in my 1st post....
I think overall the hassle factor of public transport makes driving more amenable....0 -

Ah right - I read it as 4 miles. Still, 25 miles and hills will mean lots more money saving and much fitter.
I dunno, when i was a lad I had to do 4 hours in t'pit before cycling 130 miles to school, cycle home and do 3 hrs up a chimney 6 days all fir a shilling a week. People don't know they're born these days......0 -

In all seriousness, how far do you live from the train station in Hudd? It might honestly be your easiiest option. Please call me 'Pickle'

I'm thinking even with the cost of parking at £3-50/day (subsidised!) nr. chinese supermarket & the 10 min walk to the merrion it's the quickest & easiest option....that link I posted however sounds even nearer! Obviously until I start work I won't book anything car-park wise....0

It doesn't sound too bad, even if it's a temporary measure.
The only other thing I can think of is to park up as far as Hyde Park (where the uni restrictions seem to tail off), then walk/bus it down, but that would take longer and be a kick in the teeth if you had to buy a bus pass to keep doing it there and back.
Best of luck - I hope you find something suitable soon.
P.S. Forgot to say 'well done' on getting the job in the first place! Please call me 'Pickle'
