Question for people who hate their job

245

Comments

  • I hate my job. I hate being the public face of a dysfunctional organisation having to defend behaviour I don't condone.

So what did I do? I discovered MSE and other resources, that showed me a way to reduce my living costs, make the most of my savings etc, and accepted that for a while I'd have to bite my tongue and suffer. Meanwhile I've been saving up (would have been more if the misery hadn't driven me to drink :D) and paid down the mortgage. Soon the mortgage will be gone, I already have all of next year's 'bill money' in the bank, and I've been building up alternative sources of income, becoming self-employed in the process, and started my own little sideline on Amazon and eBay, which will only grow if I can give it more time... how do I get more time? By quitting the job I hate! And when will I do it? Soooon ......... :j:j:j:beer:

It's a leap into the unknown, but an exciting one, and well, I'm sorted for at least a year. In that time I'll either succeed or fail with my own business, or have plenty of time to look around for another job (hopefully part-time) to make up any shortfall.

I probably wouldn't have had the guts to try though without MSE :money:

All businesses start of as an idea.

Not everybody can run a business, the country can't run that way, we need most people to be employees and a minority to be employers.

Plus, considering the failure rates of small businesses its not exactly a street paved with gold.

Quite and I never said it was easy or a street paved with gold.

No, you said you would advise people unhappy in their work to start businesses, I'm questioning the value of that advice.

This is where you just have to research and decide whether the risk is worth the gain and have a contingency plan if it goes wrong.

if your not happy in your job my general idea is that once the (said) morgage has gone theres very little outlay for anything else really, so save save save for 10 or so years (depending where you live) and then you can live a minimalistic life with your own roof over your head.

    Thats my theory anyway!

The point I was making and you well know is that alot of people complain about their employers unjustly and if they don't like it then they should become their own boss and employ people.

For example see whether they can afford to give more than NMW for example and the vast majority of people will realise that its not that easy to pay alot of money for some jobs because it makes your business model unsustainable in the long term.

Actually I completely disagree, people who complain unjustly would probably be terrible employers and treat their staff unjustly too. What you're trying to say to them is "try to see both sides', which is fair enough.

However not everybody who complains about their employer is doing so unjustly, plenty have good cause.

Yes, much better put. The NMW point I make though in my belief is a bug bear because people moan about only being paid this but they fail to realise that alot of companies cannot afford to offer more than this for their job.
