This thread can go on for ever & as I have better things to do I will say one last thing to those who even complain on New Years Eve because the musics to loud (you know who you are) when your places gets robbed or you have a fire, you need a jump start in the morning, you get locked out and need to go around the back, you may need that neighbors assistance.

What total cobblers you talk! What's that got to do with a neighbour wanting to live peacefully?

And it's "TOO", not "TO', loud you muppet.

Except when you go to knock on the door, the neighbour cannot hear you, as he is playing his music too loud...

Any muppet playing music loud or with heavy bass, is the last person I would seek assistance from. They will probably be the one doing the robbing, anyway...

    *confused*

Someone plays music suitable for a nightclub (I have no idea what dubsh&t actually is but I'll take a guess that I wouldn't like it... I value my hearing) in their HOME and ANNOYS their neighbour and DESPITE having had noise nuisance themselves in the past they REFUSE to think there's ANYTHING WRONG WITH THEIR BEHAVIOUR.
  • I'm not saying I agree with the OP. I just don't like some of the comments I am seeing. From both sides I hasten to add!!

Doesn't the same apply to the neighbour who isn't being as considerate as he could be?

So wait, hang on... you have no idea what it is, but you're going to label it 'sh*t' anyway? Aren't you a clever one.

How many more of you regulars want to jump on the bandwagon and offer absolutely no useful information and instead just slate this guy? Do you have some secret sub-forum where you coordinate your attacks?

Ultimately, though, the OP feels he needs to prioritise his income over his neighbours peace which demonstrates why regulations/contracts exist to prevent residents from running businesses from residential properties because of the disturbance this can create.

He should run his business from business premises and this would prevent the sticking plaster approach of mediating with his neighbour. He sees this as an affordability issue. For some reason, he can live in an expensive apartment but can't afford to book offsite storage and studio sessions when he receives a commission to produce music. It's almost as if the neighbour simply has to put up with his need to make a living until such time he generates sufficient income to take the kit of the flat, that they are being unreasonable about his need to make money.

The thing that drives neighbours mad with noise is that it is very intrusive and they feel a total loss of control about it and it dominates them even if there is no intentionality on the part of the noise maker. So the OP doesn't deliberately mean to drive them to despair but seems to think that as he doesn't intend to wind them up and has made some changes to his behaviour, they are being unreasonable and overly sensitive.

I think this thread shows why residential property is not amenable to some businesses being operated from them.

    I've offered some useful information already, and here's a point of view for you;

When the OP mentions 'Dubstep', virtually everyone KNOWS what it will be like living next to the OP.

I'm picturing a beat-up Ford Escort XR3i cruising down the street, with megawatts of amplification and a brace of subwoofers in the boot, all just to go "DOOF DOOF DOOF DOOF" ad infinitum, and mentally transferring this scenario, in a more static version, to the apartment block mentioned by the OP. Is anyone else forming this picture?

If the OP said he was listening to Light Opera and Operetta, or mixing/mastering some Folk music, then there would have been little or no reaction, because typically the people who listen to these types of music don't advertise their taste, and don't foist their taste upon others. Also, the more restrained bass end of these types of music doesn't project as much.

Unfortunately, those who listen to 'Dubstep' or similar, whether on car systems, boomboxes, or in their home, seem to feel a need to share their musical tastes with others, and surprise, surprise - the others don't like it.

Whether or not this is the backlash from street yoof with their subwoofers is rubbing off on the OP, I don't know - but it wouldn't surprise me if it is....
