Hi everyone. My hobby is pretending Im a town crier and ring a bell every 5 minutes every evening between 7.00pm to 1.00am. I live in a densely populated block of flats however despite putting some curtains over the door and closing the windows (I usually practise the hobby in my living room because I don't have a garden), my anti-social neighbours keep complaining about the noise. What should I do? I have even started using a smaller bell yet they STILL complain!! And please DO NOT stereotype me just because my hobby is shouting the news at the top of my voice and ring a bell this is nothing to do with it

However can we stick to the realities of the question - and additionally try to stay correct.

It would seem the realities are that the OP rents a flat in an expensive complex, runs a noisy business from it, the neighbours and the caretakers are complaining about the racket, and the OP can't understand why.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

I agree - however I was talking about realities in the law which essentially is what this boils down to. Anti-social oiks (and I'm tempted to put the OP into this category) exist everywhere and generally accepted good manners and behaviour don't apply to them (in their opinion). So all moralising will not work on this guy.

However no matter how much they may feel it is unfair and infringe their rights in the 'because I'm worth it' era, they still have to abide by the law of the land

I for one thought GWhiz made a valid point; probably the most factual on the this topic so far. To summarise:

You are behaving like a child
    You are annoying the adults
You are up past your bedtime

  • i am guessing by the tone of this thread if the OP was belting out the beatles or elvis there would be less hostility on this board.
I personally am not into this type of music but that wasn't the question.

He came here for advice, its not for anyone to judge if they like his music or not, he asked how best to sort his housing situation.

My neighbours do choir practice in their house once a week, irritating? yes, do i like choir music? no. but i don't complain.

as far as i am concerned noise before 9pm is peoples own business, after this is can become their neighbours business. i used to live next door to a woman who would complain when you had music on at a level you could speak over without raising your voice on a saturday afternoon. after her asking on a few occaisions for me to turn it down and me doing so i had had enough, next time she asked i just said you are being unreasonable and no i am not turning it down as i can bearly hear it as it is. she never asked again.

I have also had neighbours who complained that squeaky floorboards in my rented house disturbed their peaceful bath!! !!!!!!

If he had eqed the bass to max, it would still be a problem. The type of miusic he is mixing is by its nature very bass heavy.

Kerry, although I think the type of music has got some peoples backs up, the real issue here is the regularity of the music. Anyone can accept being disturbed once a week.... but running a business where the disturbance is a regular occurrence is not easy to ignore and should not be tolerated.
