so all food that starts out in frozen form is going to taste awful is what you are saying? lets take for example well known chefs using frozen, pastry, vegetables, fruits, reccommending freezing foods and using at later date surely the same logic applies in this situation?0 -

Already ordered, local butchers in the village.
Boned & rolled turkey breast, soooo much easier to fit in the fridge before & after.
And a boned turkey leg, I can layer with stuffing & roll like a cracker in tin foil & roast, really lovely.0 -
I already have the Iceland Turkey Crown joint in my freezer already. Just the gammon and beef to get from the butcher. I will get a couple of weeks before xmas and put in the freezer.0

As a retired chef i would never dream of using frozen ingredients, But its a matter of preferences , fresh chicken or turkey tastes better than frozen but frozen is ok if cooked properly.
and is ok if like many people today you are on a tight budget, the last four years i went away for xmas but you cant beat home cooking.0 -

So I have wasted my £50 plus every year buying a fresh one ?
Suggest you learn how to cook.
You're entitled to your opinion - I believe you have wasted £50 on your turkey. but I don't care about you really. I can cook & my family is very thankfull to me for providing them with a lovely christmas dinner.
I hope you don't choke on your turkey this year!;)0 -

i cant understand anyone not getting meat from the butcher all year round. He's a specialist thats his job. Ours gives loads of help and advice on meat all year round you just cant get that from the checkout person at the supermarket.:footie:0 -
I quite agree Red Devil. We've been using a local butcher for the past couple of year now and we very rarely buy meat from a supermarket (only if we're desperate!) . I like the fact he can tell me all about the animal, where it's come from, how it's reared etc. I think this country has so many health issues caused by poor diet - and that's not just processed foods, it's things like cheap mass produced poultry and meat. It's horrific the things that some of these animals are fed and we then in turn eat them! Yuck!
Our butcher will also recommend cuts that you don't get in the supermarket that we love and cost wise he is slightly more expensive than supermarket equivalents (if there is such a thing) but we feel it's worth every penny. It scares me to think that within the next 10 years we won't have little independent shops in high streets because the supermarket will have killed them all off and we will then be completely beholdent to the supermarkets and the prices they wish to charge and the foods they wish to sell.
It makes me mad to hear people say they can't afford to use a butcher when quite often they've never even bothered to try and see what the cost difference is, or their trolleys are laden with processed unnecessary foods instead. Our grandparents generation didn't expect to eat meat every single day of the week and I don't think we should either, when did it become a commodity instead of a luxury? It can't be healthy to eat that amount of meat and poultry a week either.0 -
I am nearly 40 and have never ordered a turkey in my life. Always get invited to my mums, dads or the in-laws for Xmas dinner.
Made a massive mistake one year and had Xmas at the home of an old uni mate. He had ordered too big a bird and it wouldn't fit in his oven. We ended up having some ready meal out his freezer. Never again.0
