Thanks for the replies. I think I'll go for a crown. I'll try my local butcher. My only problem is that im moving in on the 1st of Dec. It's 200 miles away from me at the moment so not sure if that's enough time to order it?

I looked on M&S website and could only see Thanksgiving turkeys. Not sure if I'm looking too early.

I'm thinking now to ask my current butcher what I'll need etc then phone the one in my new town to place an order.

Since buying my very first turkey crown at Christmas they have sent me the "Christmas & New Year Food to Order" brochure in the post, which I've had for a good few weeks now but you can pick one up at any M & S store in the booklet is states last order dates 3pm 15th December for Christmas and if turkey is required for New Year last order date is 3pm 20th December

Thanks I'll have a look in M&s when I'm in town today. I feel like I should use my local butcher, but I have £20 vouchers, so I may as well use them on the Turkey.

The butter baste stuff sounds yummy.

we dont' do turkey. instead we have beef, gammon and chicken.

but the years my mil has cooked the xmas dinner she always orders a turkey crown from M7S. yes it can be expensive. think it was around £30 ish maybe more. but it the nicest turkey i have every eaten. and it for a special day so if can afford it, buy the best you can.
  • We have already got a turkey crown in the freezer, but Ds2
has just started part time work at Makro and their Turkey seems
good value so we will be ordering one from them next week and
will pick it up just before xmas. We usually have beef as well :)
  • I went to my local butchers last week and booked a turkey crown, I didnt have a clue about weights ect and said that I would like it big enough for two of us, plus left overs for boxing day, and I will be getting a 6lb crown apparently! :) First year of buying from a butcher, soo looking forwadr to it too :D
So much for 'Money Saving' ;)

A few years back my mum and mil both got turkey joints from Costco. They were a great price and tasted lovely. Unfortunatly no one I know is a member anymore.

Im still now thinking of going down the butcher route (im not very good at making up my mind :rotfl:)
im thinking a local butcher where im moving too should be good as its Aberdeenshire, plus of the weathers bad I can walk to the butcher rather than drive to the next town where M&S is.
