We get a crown from the local village butcher.
I wouldn't have the first clue how to cook one. My mum takes care of all the food. I can just about handle making some cranberry sauce.:rudolf: :rudolf: :rudolf: :rudolf: :rudolf:0 -
i got a kelly bronze turkey from tesco half price for £20 a couple of weeks ago, and i'll get a goose as well i wouldn't pay the price of the M and S ones.!! I always get a food catalogue from there to have a laugh at the prices tho.!0

We ordered from a butcher in the local farmers market - we get a turkey from him every year and they are worth every penny. Looking forward to eating it!“I tell you, we are here on Earth to fart around, and don't let anybody tell you different.”

There are a few online butchers you can order turkeys and they deliver over night, I buy my fresh fish this way cant get it any fresher, supermarket fish smells off.0

We ordered ours yesterday from the local butcher. We're having Christmas at my Brother's this year and he specifically wanted the whole bird as he'll use the wings and legs for a curry or rissotto and then use the carcass for stock. We had a crown from the local butcher last year as there was just 4 of us. I have to say it was expensive but I have never tasted anything like it! I've never been a huge fan of turkey because always thought it pretty bland. My parents even got me to drive a 100 mile round trip to get a kelly bronze turkey from Norfolk from the Rick Stein food heroes one year and even that tasted very ordinary.
The crown we had last year was just incredible. It had such flavour and was so moist that there was no question of us not buying the turkey from the local butcher again this year-even if it means it coming on a 350 mile journey with us to Scotland!0 -
I never buy turkey from a butcher! DH ordered s fresh one a few yrs ago & we wanted a 20lb bird (or approx). Come the 23rd of December he went to pick it up....and came home £40 poorer! Never again cos there is no difference in a frozen one. This yr I need a similar sized bird but went to Tesco's & bought two 4kg turkeys as it was cheaper at £10 each than buying an 8kg bird for £25!0

So I have wasted my £50 plus every year buying a fresh one ?
Suggest you learn how to cook.0 -
Always from the butchers for me. I ordered a crown at the weekend, might be dearer than a frozen supermarket one, but I think they taste a lot better.Marrying the man of my dreams - 10th September 2012, St Paul's Bay Lindos :j0

If it was just me,oh and the kids id probably got for a frozen one ore an Aldi 3 bird roast if they are doing it this year. But as its my mum and my first proper year of doing it I wanted to get a nice one. To ne honest my budget is more geared to a frozen one but im hoping to have another £10 gift voucher (surveys) for M&S so that will give me £30. I still need to price them in the butchers though.:santa2::xmastree::santa2:0
