    Morning,

I woke up early achy hips. Not too bad yet but I know it will get worse as I get bigger.

I'm up early now with the kids. Plan to have some lemon curd on toast then watch Andy Murray.

I've ordered some reusable nappies from eBay ( all new) I've got a littlelamb nappy and wrap to try and a Motherease nappy and wrap coming. I still have around 12 terry squares that I bought for DD. The rest ended up as window cloths lol.
I plan to start using them when bubs is 10lb ish.
Reusables are so cute. DD and I were playing putting it on Baby Annabel all afternoon. That's her trained ready for the real thing.

I ordered some supplies from the nappy lady yesterday :) Thanks to being given a lot of washables I only needed a few things. I did buy her pack of 40 washable wipes as I thought if I'm going to be washing nappies I may as well wash wipes as well :) So now we are committed to doing it this way & with our finances the way they are that is a good thing.

Bad nights sleep, lots of hip/SPD pain keeping me awake. Might try & have a nap this afternoon.

Thanks again BBM for getting me to think again about reusables. I was thinking no one wanted to use terrys and just use the prefolds and it confused me. But when you said you were thinking about it and got all the replies, it makes sense for me to use what I have sitting. I'm going to try some prefolds too. Maybe keep them for OH lol. He's happy to go for it too.
Just wish my council had a cash Incentive so I could buy more wraps.

I'll give reusable wipes ago. Must admit I love my huggies wipes though.
I'm not sure I like the idea of the same wipes for bottoms getting used for faces, even after washing. I might get 2 different colours and keep them separate.

We still have loads of muslins & flannels that we use to clean faces so the other ones I bought will just be used for nappy changes.

So glad you have decided to join me :) The fancy washable nappies are great but too expensive for us. We have been given some as well as squares but I'm going to buy 2 packs of terry square nappies from boots (£9.99 for a pack of 6, they have good reviews) just so we have enough not to need to use the tumble dryer. I got the wraps from the nappy lady as that's one thing we weren't given.

Like many of us our income has dropped massively over the last year or so. DH was made redundant & was off work for a year. He's working now but took a massive pay cut compare to his previous job but our mortgage is the same. If we applied for it now we would be turned down! We have been working hard to over pay it & if we keep going in about 2 years we will 'officially' be able to afford it, depending on interest rates. It means every penny counts so using washable nappies & wipes really is a must for us.

I'm going to be getting a £30 refund from my council which is great as it helps with the cost of the wraps.

A big plus for us was the only people who baby-sit for us are the grandparents who could fold a terry nappy in their sleep LOL and a friend of mine who used terry square nappies for her son who is the same age as DS. She loved them & was really pleased we decided to use them as well :) I didn't realise until I went public on Facebook about the fact we were going to use them just how many of my friends used washable nappies. A lot more popular amongst them than I realised.

Lily was coughing all night :(

DH felt the baby move today, he's said he felt it before but usually baby hides away. But today he was really kicking DHs hand :)

Going to ILs for a roast dinner today, i cant wait lol.

Me too. It feels like all councils apart from ours give some money back :( I have used my £190 HIP grant toward my washables though. It's nice that we won't have any ongoing nappy costs over the year. Same with breastfeeding if *fingers crossed* I can do it.

Actually there's a question I keep meaning to ask. I've bought 2 nursing bras, but don't want to get anymore till I know I can do it. But if successful, how many nursing bras will I need?

Also anyone ever used washable breast pads? Are breastpads something you need for the entire time you are breastfeeding?

  • Morning everyone. Well I am finally going to pack my hospital bag today and I am so confused as to what I am supposed to be putting in it. In my MW notes there is a wee bit that says what you should put it and it mentions a maternity bra?? I have worn my own bras throughout my pregnancy and wondered do I need to get one or will my normal bras be ok? Also as I will not be breast feeding do I need to take in formula, bottles and a steriliser? Very confused.
Also does anyone know where the hospital checklist that was posted is? I cant seem to find it.

    Thanks,
    Sharkeybabe

    Morning all,

EA -is lovely when your OH can feel kicks too isn't it.

Sharkey - I wouldn't have thought you'd need a maternity/nursing bra if you aren't breastfeeding but I may be wrong! Can see why you are getting consued.

I am off to shops in a min, start getting some nighties etc.

I think I ended up with 5 nursing bras in the end. Still works out a lot cheaper than formula feeding! The washing machine is on more often when you have a baby so I didn't need more than that to always have some clean.

I've not tried the washable pads, will investigate. I just used Tesco own brand & they were fine. I always needed them at night (so washables would have been fine at least for then) but unless DS was having a growth spurt, so feeding more often, I didn't need them during the day after the first month or so. I did like using them though 'just in case'.
