Wow that's tough! I don't mean to moan it's just I'd always imagined when I got pregnant I would have a nice little pot saved for baby expenses and also time off but as this was a surprise (and a very good one) Im not as organised as I wanted to be meaning Im going to have to sacrifice some things.
That's awful that you can't claim anything - it just seems that this country has got it all wrong. The less you do - the more you're entitled to!:happylove DD July 2011:happyloveAug 13 [STRIKE]£4235.19[/STRIKE] £2550.00 :cool:0 -

Luckily I work from home though and hopefully will be able to work flexi time around the kids. It's gonna be tough though.Any question, comment or opinion is not intended to be criticism of anyone else.2 Samuel 12:23 Romans 8:28 Psalm 30:5

It's a theoretical nightmare to be honest. We also 'caught' earlier than expected and therefore didn't have much time. I know hubby will look after us but i'm used to a certain amount of independence you know? I think i'm going to have to swallow my pride tbh. And i'm not good at that!
I too am looking at what I can sacrifice! It may have changed since four years ago but when I claimed MA, if you had a small earnings exemption certificate (which I presume from what you've written you have) then you do get MA but at the minimum amount (which I think may have been somewhere around £30/week).
I'm not sure about that either Susan but you've given me another direction I can go in! Cheers hun! I can now have a mooch at something else and feel like i'm doing something productive! And anything is better than nothing!Beautiful Baby Boy born 28 April 20110 -

Also, all my family are Portuguese and most can't speak English so we have to choose a name that a) doesn't sound weird in Portugal (for example, Sinitta or however you spell it always gets laughs when she's on tv because her name is pronounced the same as the portuguese word for toilet) and b) they can pronounce.
Pixie I am Portuguese British, and there's an 80 page document  from the Portuguese embassy as to what you can and can't call your child... *if* you plan to register it over here so be ready! I guess if you are not, and it's just so they can pronounce it, it's still a bit of a nightmare...:o:):)

Can I ask for those who are not married to their OH, whose second name is your baby going to take? I'm thinking of doing mine then OH, just worried it might cause problems in the future with me and baby having diff names?
Urgh am back to work tomorrow after a nice few days off. Am dreading it. My cowbag boss has moved me right the way down the back of the office as the gil who sits next to me as put a grievance in against her and named me as a witness, so it is all going to kick off tomorrow:( I reeeeeeally want to phone in sick, but I have the funeral next Monday which Ill need to pull a sickie for so dunno what to do. Sigh x:j:jOur gorgeous baby boy born 2nd May 2011 - 12 days overdue!!:j:j0 -
On the name front we have chosen ours - Imogen Louisa, although OH has said she will be known as ImmyLou.....
The other names we had discussed were Poppy, Lexi, Anya and Hope
For a boy, we were thinking on the lines of Daniel, Mason and Jonah.....Challenges - repay all credit cards by end of 2015Starting the savings for retirement :rotfl:

The OH and I cannot agree on names. I like Adam, Elliot, or Rhys and he said no to all of them. However he isnt very forthcoming with any suggestions of his own!

Our baby is going to take my OH's surname, we haven't actually discussed it but I know he won't mindMy surname is distinctly odd and I always have trouble on the phone and things so I would rather that. Also, hopefully one day OH and I will be getting married so Ill have the same name anyway:D
I had my dad's name when I was born but my parents split up and my mum had a baby with someone else so she made the decision to change my name to hers and my sister was also given my mum's surname (so we would have the same name in school). I think these days so many people have different surnames to their parents or siblings it's not really a huge issue.:happylove DD July 2011:happyloveAug 13 [STRIKE]£4235.19[/STRIKE] £2550.00 :cool:0 -
Hngrymummy, thanks for doing the colours for me. My OH is fascinated by it and it's made him like Elliot even more.
At least if it's just stretchy pains you'll get more time to get organised.
Ema, The job is an outside company. I don't even know who the company is as the job centre just gave me a mobile. The girl just gave me her email. It was a bad line as she was driving. I'll call again tomorrow.:santa2::xmastree::santa2:0
