Hi ladies, just spent most of the day catching up with the zillions of pages from over the weekend. DS is at childminders today so I have Mondays to myself so I can rest. Cups of tea and MSE have been my best friend all day today!

Had cramps and perhaps Braxtons Hicks over the weekend, never had any of this last time round so all new to me. Very uncomfortable, and annoying as everytime I go 'ooooh' and catch my breath while standing funny, DH says 'are you starting labour' and I have to reply along the lines of '1- I wouldn't know as I didn't go into labour naturally last time did I? And 2 - how would I know from just one contraction? Clearly I need to wait to see if there are more and if they get stronger and more frequent!'

Just some comments on some of the more recent posts:
I am planning on me and OH having a cheeky night away for my 30th birthday which is 6 weeks after my due date... <snip> ... We prob won't book it til last minute anyway (cheaper rates) so will see how we are then.

Definitely definitely wait until nearer the time to book it (unless you don't mind losing the money), you really never know how you will feel at what would be 4-6 weeks after having your baby. In my case I still couldn't leave the house!! We had something similar planned and it all went astray, but we did manage a night away at 9 weeks after the birth.

MV - can I ask about the dummy? I was wondering about giving one to Sam as he's waking a lot earlier than his feed is due at the moment, I wondered whether it might help him stay asleep?
I know this wasn't your question, but something the midwives and HV's said to me when DS was born was that in the first 4-ish weeks, babies don't wake before their feed is due, if they wake and cry (or whatever it is they do to let you know they want feeding) then that is their feeding time. This was 18 months ago and I know info on feeding changes all the time though, so not sure if it's something they still say, but for a baby as young as yours (and no matter whether breast or formula fed) they would say to us there is no time when a babies feed is due, apart from when it wants feeding. Obviously the feeding on demand eventually emerges into a routine or pattern, but not before 4-ish weeks.

Does anyone who has had their antenatal classes recently know what the latest 'advice' is on feeding times in the first few weeks? I know feeding is usually covered, but as a 2nd time parent we don't have classes to update us, and I am curious. Will ask MW when I see her next I suppose.

Edit: Just read that back and just wanted to say this wasn't meant to sound like it was getting at your feeding process lilian! It just prompted a question re feeding times in my head based on info I got when I had DS, when I had a home visit around 2 weeks old and they asked me when I would feed next and I said 'Oh he's due in around an hour' and they went into a speech containing what I just said above. I think their question was a trick to check if I was feeding on demand like I 'should have been'.

DH did get a bit antsy about me turning things down, but once I spoke to him and explained my reasons he is a lot better about it... I do think he would probably prefer I just shut up and put up though...

But then, when he's the one carrying the babies he can do whatever tests he likes, until then... My decision!!
He knows my reasoning and agrees that for example I don't need to be tested for HIV and syphilis - he's just scared of annoying them by being non-standard.

  • Anyone give me some good reasons to turn down the GTT. I just don't see the point tbh! :(

Hi girls, I've been to see a consultant and substance midwife today. Both have agreed I need anti depressants so I've been put back onto sertraline but now it's a 100mg dose. I can go up to 250mg before it starts to get dangerous for baby.

When I have my triple test I need extra blood taken to check my liver. I overdosed back in October and a lot of the tablets I took were paracetamol which can mess your liver up. I had tests whilst in hospital which indicated it was ok at the time but they want to keep an eye on me.

It's a weight off my shoulders, especially since I only have my OH to support me :)

Thank you - and I didn't think you were getting at me :) We've decided to increase his feeds to 7 in 24 hours rather than the 6 advised on the SMA tin as he's not finishing his bottle but then calling for a feed an hour or two later. We'll see how that goes! He's putting on weight anyway, he's 11 days old now and is 2oz shy of his birth weight which considering I was trying and failing to breastfeed him for the first 4 days is pretty good I think.

Hi Sequeena, I'm on the same as you but only 50 mg. I tried cutting down to half a tablet a day but started to feel low again. From research its one of the safest anti d's to have and can carry on if you breast feed I believe.

Cheers Grateful. I'm happy to say no but I kinda need to justify it to the hubby lol if I am gonna turn it down lol.

What I mean is... are there any risks considering my sister has diabetes? I'm meant to be 'in the category' considering i'm drinking a lot, weeing a lot and wanting sugary things a lot. But isn't that the case in pregnancy anyhow?!

That's great news, just hope it works as it didn't when I wasn't pregnant... there's got to be one that works for me :j
