Natwest Closed my Account!

Hey guys, My name is Michael, I just turned 18. I had a Natwest Adapt account for under 18's. Earlier this year my card got stolen and people used it to do some sort of illegal activities. Before realising my card had been used (I was on holiday), When I get back I received notice that my accounts had been closed. Along with 'unpaid cheques' going into my account, to which I think were stolen. Furious, I called Natwest asking what has happened. They said they couldn't disclose the information with me but I can no longer use Natwest and the Royal Bank of Scotland. Realising there is nothing I can do I thought I wait till I'm 18 till I open a new account.
Now I applied for a halifax current account. When they replied they said that I haven't passed the Credit Score check.
Now is this because of the Natwest incident? I rarely went into an overdraft with Natwest and ensured my payments were done. I only had £50 in the account before the incident.
Will I never be able to open any account with any bank?
I haven't done anything wrong, why is this happening to me :(

Why are you being credit scored by the halifax your under 18?

What account was you trying to open?

Im sorry but Natwest wont tell you why they have closed the account and my understanding is they dont have to disclose the reasons why either.

I was trying to open a current account:
    The Halifax everyday bank account.
I'm 18 now...? I'm unsure how this all works. All I know is that they declined my application and the only reason I can think of is what happened with Natwest- which makes things really unfair.
    Thanks for the reply!

Now your 18 you should maybe get a copy of your credit reports and see what information they contain.

The thing is they keep asking for a debit card to link me to the banks, but If my debit card was stolen what can I do? Also isn't the account closed? So I won't have a debit card to check my credit?
Thanks again for the quick reply.
Do credit checks take account any bad behaviour on accounts? Because I've never borrowed from anyone

Becuase of what happened on your old account no bank is willing to take the risk with you. I suspect you have a CIFAS cat 6 against your name which means no one will touch you with a barge pole. To find out for sure obtain a copy of your credit file from either Experian or Equifax and make sure that you ask them for a "full subject acsess request" so they send you a copy of everything as a normal credit file will not show Cifas warnings against you.
Once you have done this there is nothing else you can do but at least you'll know what it is.

If I do have this CIFAS thingy, is there no hope for me at all?
    This isn't fair! :'(
Also I'm trying to get a credit check but I have no debit card for them to verify my identity!

this will explain the CIFAS levels: https://www.uk.equifax.com/dn/dnr/help/CIFAS.htm

I would recommend contacting CIFAS about having an incorrect category classified against you.

Does CIFAX have a number I can call, I've searched their website and it appears they do not... The only means of contacting them are sending them a letter or emailing them. Though when you email then it's about a complaint... Will my situation classify as a complaint?
    Thanks for the replies.
Also is there anyway I could get a credit check without a credit card?

Actually, your regular credit reports WILL show any CIFAS records in your name at your address. You do not need Subject Access Requests which would cost you £10 each. If you find CIFAS information that you think is inaccurate or unfair you can complain to CIFAS, if you get no joy with the organisation that has registered it.
