Then as you built the bike then you should fit them. the same as if I built a car I would have to have it, SVA,d

I already have fitted them, to two of my bikes. But why would I fit lights to a track bike, or a time trial bike, when they're not required?

Glad you have them fitted to your "other 2 bikes"

But your track bike/time trial bike is of no relevance really is it seeing as the location you ride them will probably be completely free of motorists

  • Clearly you don't know anything about time trialling. Or, for that matter, the point to which I was replying.

    clearly !

I'd rather use my motocross bike for thrills than pedal in lycra shorts thinking "i'm it"

Unfortunately those clip-in pedals usually mean that it's illegal to ride the bike on the road: bikes are required to have pedal reflectors, but the clips don't usually have them.

I'd say you're getting confused with the use regulations and the pedal bicycles safety regs. New bikes have to be sold with reflectors (front and back, on the pedals and side ones on the wheels) and also a bell, but there is no law stating they have to be present when used on the road.

When used they must have independant braking for both wheels and also lights if used at night. That's it apparently

I've got those clippy pedals too which are perfectly legal - they are allowed in road races when I do triathlons where the bike has to be road legal.

If there not required then there is no problem. But it must be a regulation that allows you not to have them fitted?

It puzzles me why so many people refer so mockingly to lycra. I'm beginning to suspect that these people have sexual needs that are currently unfulfilled.

Maybe I should start writing about idiots on crossers who wreck public footpaths, and suggesting that all motocross riders are to blame? Would that be any less offensive?

What? You're saying that the absence of a law must be enforced by a law?

My mountain bike has no lights and no reflectors at all, they were removed as soon as it was delivered.
I always transport the bike to woodland (and mountain bike park etc), it's worth more than most 5+ year old cars and i'd be pretty p1ssed if someone trashed it before I even got there.

If I were to start commuting by bike, I would buy a cheap road bike or hybrid with all the safety gear remaining on the bike.
I think though, that the roads are just far too dangerous.
