Ovo energy too, British supplier offering the lowest fixed price on the market.

They also give you 3% interest on any credit on your account, clear bills and no stupidly awkward discounts.. much better sounding deal to me than First Utility!
    Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently! ;)

What this big thing everyone has about 'British' suppliers? The shareholders/investors of both British Gas and, e.g. E.ON are pretty much the same, i.e. pension funds, insurance companies and so on. The UK companies of all the overseas-owned utilities pretty much all use British employees, i.e. go to Scottish Power or npower and you'll see British people working, not Spanish or Germans.

  • Have noticed that comparison sites don't show comparison using BG Essentials rate has anyone come across a site that offers comparisons with this rate. Also, does anyone know what this rate is valued at?

    Thanks

    Wholesale prices up?
    Is that spot or future?

We haven't got a Ukrainian crissis this time round, so why are wholesale prices higher? Bankers are always taking huge positions in futures and making billions. I expect it's the same kind of hording Enron traders were up to, which led to energy prices rocketing sky high, causing California to plunge into blackouts.

I want David Cameron to talk to Medebev, asking him to release more stock. Let's flood the market with cheap gas, and sink Goldman Sachs in one fell swoop. This time, no bail out, you profiteering parasites.

Thanks for the link, however that says rate of increase which is pretty meaningless without other peices of info - What were the price beforehand? Waht were they historically? What is the average in pounds or euros for domestic users?

If you were starting from a lower base, and prices have risen elsewhere then a higher percentage could be expected. If the prices were broadly similar before then I agree its a scandel.

Far from it, we are actually quite cheap compared to most countries.

Some countries like France are cheaper but their system is heavily subsidised by the taxpayer.

We actually have a very competitive market in the UK but as usual people would rather believe it is all a big conspiracy.

Thanks, just spotted this. That's the sort of impartial info I was looking for. I could recall reading something on the Energy Retail Associations website saying the UK was the most competitive market in Europe and prices were good and blah blah blah but they aren't exactly impartial so I took it with a pinch of salt.

Unless there's evidence to the contrary then the headlines are all hot air. Oh and while we're on Nationalisation would do nothing to protect the UK against rising demand from rapidly developing economies, or the poor levels of gas storage we still have.
