Exactly customers are being squeezed by rising energy bills and food prices/commodities yet incomes have no where kept pace with inflation the only plus point is interest rates remain low but that little comfit to those in work, or on some benefits.

I barely just paid for last years Winter gas bill because of Winter and I am normally well in credit

Have earnings and benefits gone up by the same % to cover the increases by all firms?

    NO!

Is everyone supposed to freeze to death?

Not if you are a Millionaire in the Cabinet !!

We are all in it together *roll eyes*

Is this a photo of the Queen feeling the cold? I doubt it!!

British Gas hits eight million customers with seven per cent price hike

article-0-0000120500000CB2-694_87x84.jpg Household bills for gas and electricity will go up from 10 December and will amount to an increase of £1.50 on the average weekly dual-fuel bill.
  • Phil Bentley our Managing Director has been explaining the reason behind today’s price announcement on TV and radio. If you would like to know more about this then please watch the following video

Well Phil Bentley advises us to use less gas to mitigate the increase. Insulate our homes.. energy efficient boilers. He forgot to mention that we can also switch to another supplier, and that's what I hope most British Gas customers will do.

Please don't look for any rationale for this increase. You will be wasting a lot of time. :(

British Gas made a record £585million in the first half of 2010.

If British Gas are making THAT much money, surely it would make sense to keep the prices at the current level or drop them down so that everyone is able to afford gas comfortably this winter.

But no, British Gas are only looking out for themselves and not the "little people".

Why do you hope that?, I am just curious. If you are on a tariff that has gone back up to around the price it was last year before the price cuts and you're happy with the service and the price is still competetive why swap?
I'm not 100% sure why people who are so obsessed about gas prices don't look into renewables, solar, heat pumps, lpg, oil, wood, pellets etc....there's a world of choice you don't need natural gas and in a few years you wont have the option of it either in new build houses.

Give it two weeks - they'll all price hike then. They all wait for BG to do it first and take the brunt of the outcry.

Well I have applied today to leave BG and switch to Evo Energy on their fixed 12 month tariff. It means an extra £31 for a years worth of Gas and electric but will save me money when BG raise their prices.
  • Im another happy camper on Eon's fixonline v8. prices are about 20-25% cheaper than current prices and that's before these most recent price increases

The moral of the story is be proactive and not reactive when your energy bills come in.

I strongly urge you guys to consider scottish powers very long fixed deal to 2014 I think - it's called platinum fixed - comes with boiler care and typical yearly cost is £1226 a year.

Even though my annual bill will be £1100 on fixonline v8 I am tempted by this switch as I doubt this deal will be about for long before its withdrawn.

think of what prices will be by the time that tariff expires!!

This is great news. I've seen my BG shares and dividends rise very nicely this year. Looks like there's more to come.

    Well done BG.

Grateful shareholder (and EON customer ;) )
