Cold comfit to many people living on the breadline, they are quick to increase prices and slow to decrease them when wholesale prices decrease. They like many other utility companies have not passed on the full decrease in previous years, still I am sure you enjoy your dividend

This is great news. I've seen my BG shares and dividends rise very nicely this year. Looks like there's more to come.

    Well done BG.

Grateful shareholder (and EON customer ;) )
  • Give it two weeks - they'll all price hike then. They all wait for BG to do it first and take the brunt of the outcry.

Is does smell like a cartel doesn't it?
  • Until we have an international comparison I can't understand people jumping on thie bankwagon. If we are getting shafted relative to other European countries then I'd be furious. But I've never seen these figures, anyone have them to hand? Or does it not make a good headline?

And as usual the regulator does nothing other than spout hot air. This is another Quango that should be shut down.

Whilst I do not condone volence the students have shown that the only way to get any injustice highlighted in the press/news is to demonstrate. I see front page of the sun is back to X Factor!! electricity rises that impact on everybody in the country is in the middle of the paper.
  • why not get everyone on British Gas to change their supply and put them out of business ??? This would then send the right message to all the energy suppliers . As soon as they hike the price put them on benefits.

Phil Bentley our Managing Director has been explaining the reason behind today’s price announcement on TV and radio. If you would like to know more about this then please watch the following video

Funny he "forgot" to mention that the wholesale price of gas has fallen by 40% since it's high in 2008 and BG has only reduced it's price by 10%.

Lets hope those affected by this disgraceful price increase just before the Winter take their business elsewhere.
  • Everyone in this country complains and complains about the same increases every year, yet we do nothing about it. I suggest that the best way to hit British Gas is to boycott it. If we were to move to another company, even if the price were the same, we create a public disquiet and therefore show our strength as a nation. British gas will only reduce costs to consumers if they need to encourage them back. Leave in our droves, that is the answer, then British gas will be begging us to return by the only method they know how, reducing prices. The simple solution is to switch now it costs you nothing.

Someone always comes up with this whenever there is a price rise, it'll never happen though, there are still far too many people out there who stubbornly refuse to switch suppliers no matter what happens.

Its alright for the head of BG to tell people to use less, that'll be the excuse for price rises in the future "people are using less so we have to charge more for it to make money"

Except BG arent the first to do it are they?

I dont remember there being this much outcry when SSE announced putting their prices up a couple of weeks ago..
