Go for the best provider you can get coverage with, seriously.

I'm tied into a 24 month T-Mobile contract (13 to go) and the signal in my new flat is horrific - as is Orange. O2 and Vodafone are always available though if I do a manual network scan.

3 is also pretty poor (hence I've just cancelled a mobile broadband contract in the first 14 days)

If 3 and T-Mobile are parnters in there 3G Network, why isn't there coverage the same or is it?

It depends on what masts and equipment they are sharing.

  • For me in Norfolk, o2 has fantastic 2G coverage, but pathetic 3G (I'm on giffgaff). Whereas 3 has the best 3G coverage, but alas, their 2G/3G signal is a bit patchy in places (and can't get a signal at work). 3 do seem to be upgrading quite a few places with 3G coverage lately. If only o2 could do likewise.

Up in Leeds 3 are as good as anyone else. Orange tends to be flaky which brings problems with 3 when there's no 3G available.

To the OP, if you are thinking O2 have you looked at Tesco? Their iPhone 4 contracts are 12 months only, which means more upfront cost but they generally do work out better value (compared to O2s published prices).

Tesco use the O2 network so the coverage will be the same as O2. I was a bit apprehensive about using Tesco but they've been fine. On the 2 occasions I've had a reason to call customer service I have been genuinely surprised, and very pleased with their quick, efficient, and polite service.

as far as i am aware, t-mobile and 3 share their 3g network period. Orange will also share / add their 3g sites to the network in the future.
